HMS Gamunu
HMS ''Gamunu'' was a shore establishment of the Royal Navy in Ceylon. With the Admiralty taking over the Ceylon Naval Volunteer Force in 1942, its headquarters at Kochchikade was commissioned as HMS ''Gamunu''. The headquarters of the Ceylon Naval Volunteer Force established in a purpose built building east side of the Port Commission Railway lines, in Kochchikade. Built at a cost of Rs 28,000, it provided office accommodation for the Commanding Officer, Staff Officers and Paymaster, messes and an armoury. It had a small parade ground and a 12 pound gun. The facilities were expanded in during World War 2 and remained Ceylon Royal Naval Volunteer Force headquarters after it was transferred back to the Government of Ceylon at the end of the war. It remained headquarters of the Volunteer Naval Force following the formation of the Royal Ceylon Navy in 1950, until it was handed over to the Ports Authority. Stone Frigate
A stone frigate is a naval establishment on land. "Stone frigate" is an informal term that has its origin in Britain's Royal Navy after its use of Diamond Rock, an island off Martinique, as a ' sloop of war' to harass the French in 1803–04. The Royal Navy was prohibited from ruling over land, so the land was commissioned as a ship. The command of this first stone frigate was given to Commodore Hood's first lieutenant, James Wilkes Maurice, who, with cannon taken off the Commodore's ship, manned it with a crew of 120 until its capture by the French in the Battle of Diamond Rock in 1805. Until the late 19th century, the Royal Navy housed training and other support facilities in hulks—old wooden ships of the line—moored in ports as receiving ships, depot ships, or floating barracks. SLNS ''Parakrama'' is a Sri Lanka Navy shore establishment sited on Flagstaff Street in Colombo, in close proximity to the Colombo Lighthouse. It functions as the naval headquarters of the Navy.
