HM Prison Swansea (Welsh: ) is a Prison security categories in the United Kingdom, Category B/C men's prison, located in the Sandfields, Swansea, Sandfields area of Swansea, Wales. The prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is colloquially known as 'Cox's farm', after a former governor. History Swansea is a Victorian architecture, Victorian prison built between 1845 and 1861 to replace former prison accommodation at Swansea Castle. Both male and female inmates were incarcerated there until 1922, at which point all females were transferred to Cardiff (HM Prison), Cardiff Prison. Execution site A total of 15 judicial executions took place at Swansea prison between 1858 and 1958. All of the condemned prisoners were hanged for the crime of murder. Sandfields, Swansea
Sandfields is a district in Swansea, Wales bounded by St. Helen's Road to the north, Oystermouth Road and Swansea Bay to the south and Dillwyn Street to the east. The area is adjacent to and immediately west of Swansea city centre. The district does not exist officially as a geographical area or a local authority community area. Sandfields also does not have a specific postcode. The original Sandfields covered a larger area than it does now, derived from the area known as 'The Burrows' which extended from Brynmill Lane in the west up to the West Pier by the mouth of the River Tawe. Notable buildings and landmarks The modern Sandfields area contains many notable Swansea buildings and landmarks.
