HC Erlangen
HC Erlangen is a handball club from Erlangen, Germany. They currently compete in the Handball-Bundesliga. History In the 2000/2001 season, both HG Erlangen and CSG Erlangen played in the 2. Handball-Bundesliga, but this season CSG Erlangen dropped out due to a licensing problem, so the club decided to merge with its neighbor, HG Erlangen, which is already in the 2. Handball-Bundesliga. The new club was formed and was named HC Erlangen. They reached the DHB-Pokal FINAL4 in 2022, but lost their semi-final match against SC Magdeburg 30—22. Accomplishments * 2. Ólafur Indriði Stefánsson (born 3 July 1973 in Reykjavík, Iceland) is a former Icelandic handball player who, for many years was the captain of the Iceland men's national handball team but announced his international retirement after the 2012 London Olympics. His position was right back. At his peak he was considered to be one of the very best handball players in the world. As a player for his national team, his goal tally of 1570 is third only to the Hungarian Péter Kovács and Gudjon Valur Sigurdsson. He is also one of the most enduring handball players of all times, being a senior field player since 1992. He was voted Icelandic Sportsperson of the Year in 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2009. Manuel Zehnder is a Swiss professional handball player who plays for ThSV Eisenach and the Switzerland national team. Zehnder can play left back or centre back, and is known for his goal-scoring ability. Playing a minor role for HC Erlangen in the 2022–23 Handball-Bundesliga, he joined newly promoted Eisenach on loan for the 2023-24 season.
