HAT-P-14b, also known as WASP-27b, is an extrasolar planet located approximately away in the constellation of Hercules, orbiting the 10th magnitude F-type star HAT-P-14. This planet was discovered in 2010 by the HATNet Project using the transit method. It was independently detected by the SuperWASP project. History The planet HAT-P-14b was named Sissi. The name was selected by Austria as part of the NameExoWorlds campaign for the 100th anniversary of the IAU. The planet was named after the character Sissi in the movie '' Sissi'', who is married to Franz. The role is played by the actress Romy Schneider. The star HAT-P-14 is named Franz. HATNet Project
The Hungarian Automated Telescope Network (HATNet) project is a network of six small fully automated "HAT" telescopes. The scientific goal of the project is to detect and characterize extrasolar planets using the transit method. This network is used also to find and follow bright variable stars. The network is maintained by the Center for Astrophysics Harvard & Smithsonian. The HAT acronym stands for ''Hungarian-made Automated Telescope'', because it was developed by a small group of Hungarians who met through the Hungarian Astronomical Association. The project started in 1999 and has been fully operational since May 2001. NameExoWorlds (also known as IAU NameExoWorlds) is the name of various projects managed by the International Astronomical Union (I.A.U.) to encourage names to be submitted for astronomical objects, which would later be considered for official adoption by the organization. History The first such project (NameExoWorlds I), in 2015, regarded the naming of stars and exoplanets. 573,242 votes were submitted by members by the time the contest closed on October 31, 2015, and the names of 31 exoplanets and 14 stars were selected from these.
