Hard-Fi
Hard-Fi are an English indie rock band, formed in 2003 in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey. The band's most recent lineup before going on hiatus consisted of Richard Archer (lead vocals and guitar), Kai Stephens (bass guitar and backing vocals) and Steve Kemp (drums and backing vocals). Founding member Ross Phillips (guitar and backing vocals) left the band on 6 May 2013 but returned in 2014 to promote the release of their greatest hits album, '' Best of 2004 – 2014'', and the one-off gig on 13 February 2014. They achieved chart success with their third single, " Hard to Beat" and then followed by other successful singles such as " Living for the Weekend" and "Cash Machine", which all reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart. ''Stars of CCTV'' is the debut studio album by English indie rock band Hard-Fi. It was first released on 4 July 2005 through Necessary Records and Atlantic Records. It received positive reviews from critics and was nominated for the 2005 Mercury Music Prize. The album reached number one on the UK Albums Chart in January 2006, taking it about five months to reach number one mainly due to the preceding single "Cash Machine" catching the sellers' attention; its original peak position was number six. The album has sold 1.2 million copies worldwide, with over 300,000 in the UK alone. It was certified 2× platinum by the BPI for selling 600,000 copies in the UK. Richard Archer
Richard Archer (born 18 January 1977) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. He is the lead vocalist, guitarist, principal songwriter and main composer of indie rock band Hard-Fi. Hard-Fi have produced several top 10 hits and two No. 1 albums. The influence of Archer's hometown of Staines is often evident in his lyrics. He fronted a band called Contempo from 1997 until 2001. Early life and education Archer was born in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey. He is a music graduate from Kingston University. He grew up in Staines, a suburban location of North West Surrey which is a huge influence in the lyrics of the songs he has written with band Hard-Fi. ''Once Upon a Time in the West'' is the second studio album by English indie rock band Hard-Fi. It was released on 3 September 2007 on Necessary/Atlantic and Warner Music UK. It reached #1 in the UK Album Chart in the first week of its release, and #5 in the European Top Albums. Good For Nothing (song)
"Good for Nothing" is a single by English indie rock band Hard-Fi. It is the first single from their third studio album ''Killer Sounds''. The single cover does not bear the "Parental Advisory" sticker, despite the profanity used during the chorus. It was released as a digital download on 17 June 2011, and soon after received a "Song of the Week" designation from The Tune. Music video The official music video was filmed in Barcelona, Spain. It features Hard-Fi walking around the Tibidabo area, while there are shots of the Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor. "Living for the Weekend" is the fourth single from English indie rock band Hard-Fi, from their debut album, '' Stars of CCTV''. It was released on 5 September 2005 and peaked at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart. "Living for the Weekend" was written by Hard-Fi frontman Richard Archer and has been heavily featured in a Life Style Sports commercial in Ireland and a Carling commercial in the United Kingdom. It has also been featured on the Winter Olympics Special of BBC's ''Top Gear'' and in the '' CSI'' episode " Time of Your Death". Steve Kemp (musician)
Steven Michael "Steve" Kemp (born 29 December 1978) is an English drummer. He was the drummer of indie rock band Hard-Fi. Career Originally from Lancashire, Kemp went to Carnforth High School, before he moved to London in his late teens to take a musical course. Kemp is a big fan of Liverpool F.C. and was originally a drummer for a Dj who happened to be a friend of Richard Archer. When Archer was scouting for members to be in his band, he asked Kemp to be part of it, through Kemp's link with the Dj. Staines-upon-Thames
Staines-upon-Thames is a market town in northwest Surrey, England, around west of central London. It is in the Borough of Spelthorne, at the confluence of the River Thames and Colne. Historically part of Middlesex, the town was transferred to Surrey in 1965. Staines is close to Heathrow Airport and is linked to the national motorway network by the M25 and M3.
