H2O (Scottish Band)
H2O were a Scottish pop band that formed in Glasgow in 1978. The band had two UK top 40 hits in 1983 with the singles " I Dream to Sleep" and " Just Outside of Heaven". History H2O were formed in Glasgow in 1978 by lead singer Ian Donaldson (who used to be a member of punk rock band Skroo), bassist Alan McGee (who later managed rock band Oasis in the 1990s - but was eventually replaced by Colin Ferguson), drummer Kenny Dorman (who, latterly, introduced keyboardist Ross Alcock, both of them from Largs in North Ayrshire), guitarist David Wells and saxophonist Colin Gavigan, who all participated in the writing of the band's compositions. Andrew Innes had a very short stint as guitarist, but together with Alan McGee the two moved to London to form The Laughing Apple. H2O's first independent single, "Hollywood Dream" was released in 1981 on their own independent label Spock Records. Hipsway
Hipsway are a Scottish pop/ new wave band. History and description The band was formed in Glasgow in 1984 by ex- Altered Images guitarist Johnny McElhone on bass, and featuring Grahame Skinner (vocals), Pim Jones (guitar) and Harry Travers ( drums). Skinner and Travers had been members of the band Kites with Paul McGrath and Ian McGreevy before Hipsway formed. Their music was characterized by Skinner's deep vocals and Jones' rhythmic guitar style. They were quickly signed up by Mercury Records and by 1985 had released their first, eponymously titled album. The album was a moderate success on the UK Albums Chart; while the single " The Honeythief", made number 17 on the UK Singles Chart, and also reached the top 20 on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart. The Bluebells
The Bluebells are a Scottish indie pop, indie new wave music, new wave band, active between 1981 and 1986 (later briefly reforming in 1993, 2008–2009, 2011 and 2018). Career The Bluebells performed jangle pop, jangly guitar-based pop not dissimilar to their Scottish contemporaries Aztec Camera and Orange Juice (band), Orange Juice. They had three top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart, all written by guitarist and founder member Bobby Bluebell (real name Robert Hodgens) – "I'm Falling", "Cath", and their biggest success "Young at Heart (The Bluebells song), Young at Heart". A demo (shortened from "demonstration") is a song or group of songs typically recorded for limited circulation or for reference use, rather than for general public release. ''Faith'' is the debut and only studio album by Scottish pop band H2O. It was originally released in 1984 on the label RCA. The album was recorded over a period of five months between October 1983 and March 1984, in sessions that took place at Livingston Studios, in London. It features their bestselling singles, " I Dream to Sleep" and " Just Outside of Heaven", both of which preceded the album being released the year before. In 2009, a digitally remastered CD of the album was released with six bonus tracks by Cherry Red. Critical reception Pemberton Roach of AllMusic gave the album two out of five stars and called the album "an obscure gem of 1980's New Romantic synth pop" adding that ''Faith'' "makes a strong bid for lost classic status." A recording contract (commonly called a record contract or record deal) is a legal agreement between a record label and a recording artist (or group), where the artist makes a record (or series of records) for the label to sell and promote. Kenny Hyslop
Kenneth John Hyslop (born 14 February 1951 in Helensburgh, Scotland) is a Scottish drummer. He joined the band Salvation with Midge Ure, which later became Slik and, after Ure's departure, some of the remaining members formed the Zones. He also went on to play with the Skids. In 1981, he joined Simple Minds, replacing Brian McGee. He contributed by recording "Promised You a Miracle" and appeared in the videos of "Sweat in Bullet" and "Love Song", from the ''Sons and Fascination'' album, which he did not appear on, but helped to promote. Following his departure from Simple Minds in 1982, Hyslop formed Set the Tone with bass player Bobby Paterson. Following the demise of Set the Tone, Hyslop formed the One O'Clock Gang which released an album on Arista Records. Slik
Slik were a Scottish pop group of the mid-1970s, most notable for their UK number 1 hit " Forever and Ever" in 1976. Initially glam rock, the band later changed their style to soft rock/bubblegum. It was the first band with whom singer and guitarist Midge Ure began to experience musical success, before joining new wave band Ultravox. History Slik were formed as the Glasgow based band 'Salvation' in June 1970, comprising brothers Kevin McGinlay (vocals) and Jim McGinlay (bass), Nod Kerr (drums), Mario Tortolano (keyboards), and Ian Kenny (guitar). Brian Deniston replaced Ian Kenny in December 1970 and Nod Kerr departed in May 1971, followed by Tortolano and they were replaced by Matt Cairns on drums and Robin Birrel on keyboards.
