Hälsingland Dialects
Hälsingland (), sometimes referred to by the Latin name Helsingia, is a historical province or ''landskap'' in central Sweden. It borders Gästrikland, Dalarna, Härjedalen, Medelpad and the Gulf of Bothnia. It is part of the land of Norrland. Princess Madeleine is currently the duchess of Hälsingland, along with Gästrikland. Administration The traditional provinces of Sweden serve no administrative or political purpose, but are historical and cultural entities. In the case of Hälsingland the province constitutes the northern part of the ''län'' ('administrative county') Gävleborg County. Minor parts of the province are in Jämtland County and in Västernorrland County. The 25 provinces of Sweden () are historical, geographical and cultural regions. They have no administrative function, but retain their own cultural identities, dialects and folklore. Several were administrative subdivisions until 1634, when they were replaced by the counties of Sweden (). Some were conquered later on from Denmark–Norway. Others, like the provinces of Finland, have been lost. In some cases, the county and province borders correspond almost exactly, as with Blekinge and Blekinge County. The island of Gotland is both a province, a county and a municipality (''kommun''). The only other province to share a name with a modern municipality is Härjedalen, though the borders are not quite the same. Medelpad
Medelpad ( or ) is a historical province or ''landskap'' in the north of Sweden. It borders Hälsingland, Härjedalen, Jämtland, Ångermanland and the Gulf of Bothnia. The province is a part of Norrland and as such considered to be Northern Sweden, although the province geographically is located in the middle of Sweden. It is a common misconception that the name ''Medelpad'' ("middle land" or "middle ground") reflects this, but the name actually refers to the fact that most of the province lies between its two rivers Ljungan and Indalsälven. Söderhamn Municipality () is a Municipalities of Sweden, municipality in Gävleborg County, in east central Sweden. The seat is located in Söderhamn. Ovanåker Municipality () is a municipality in Gävleborg County, east central Sweden. The municipal seat is located in Edsbyn. The subdivision reform of 1952 saw the amalgamation of "old" Ovanåker with ''Voxna'' (both formed by the first local government acts of 1862). Nordanstig Municipality
Nordanstig Municipality () is a municipality in Gävleborg County, east central Sweden. The municipal seat is located in Bergsjö. The municipality was created in 1974 when ''Bergsjö'', ''Gnarp'', ''Hassela'' and ''Harmånger'' were amalgamated. The name chosen for the new municipality was taken from a corresponding ecclesiastical entity, ''Nordanstigs kontrakt'', which got this name in 1916 on the initiative of Nathan Söderblom, the archbishop of Uppsala. The current municipal arms was designed in the mid 80s. Ljusdal Municipality
Ljusdal Municipality () is one of Sweden's 290 municipalities within Gävleborg County. Its seat is Ljusdal. The municipality was formed in 1971 by the amalgamation of the market town (''köping'') of Ljusdal (instituted in 1914) with the rural municipalities Järvsö, Färila, Los and Ramsjö. Ljusdal is known for its successful bandy team and for the annual Bandy World Cup that used to be held in the town. Geography Geographically the town is located on the shores of the river Ljusnan, along the shores of which Sweden's northern main line railway ('' Norra Stambanan'') stretches. Hudiksvall Municipality () is one of Sweden's 290 municipalities, situated in Gävleborg County, east central Sweden. Its seat is in the city Hudiksvall. Bollnäs Municipality
Bollnäs Municipality () is a municipality in Gävleborg County, east central Sweden. Its seat is located in Bollnäs. The municipality evolved during a series of local government reforms in the 1950s and 1970s. It consists of six original entities and has its present shape since 1977. Geography Through the municipality, from north to southeast, runs the river Ljusnan. Among the localities situated at the river are Bollnäs and Arbrå. South of Bollnäs is the confluence of Ljusnan and its biggest tributary Voxnan. Nearby the town of Bollnäs are several water areas with fish such as trout, bass and pike. Västernorrland County () is a county ('' län'') in the north of Sweden. It is bordered by the counties of Gävleborg, Jämtland, Västerbotten and the Gulf of Bothnia.
