Đông Bắc (literally "Northeast" from ) is the region to the north of the Red River Delta in Vietnam, bordering China. It is called ''Northeast'' to distinguish it from the Tây Bắc () or "Northwest", but it is actually in the north and northeast of Hanoi, wider than Việt Bắc () or "Northern Vietnam". Commune-level Subdivisions (Vietnam)
In Vietnam, there are three kinds of third-level (commune-level) administrative subdivisions: the Rural commune (Vietnam), rural commune ( vi, xã), the Commune-level town (Vietnam), commune-level town ( vi, thị trấn), and the ward (Vietnam), ward ( vi, phường, literal meaning: urban subdistrict).
