''Hypericum'' sect. ''Sampsonia'' is a small section of plants in the genus ''Hypericum''. It comprises only two species, both endemic to eastern Asia: '' Hypericum sampsonii'' and '' Hypericum assamicum''. They are perennial herbs, the stem bases sometimes becoming woody, growing up to tall. They have black glands on the leaves, petals, anthers, and usually the sepals. The leaves are opposite and perfoliate with entire margins. Norman Robson (botanist)
Norman Keith Bonner Robson (1928 – 6 September 2021) was a Scientific Associate in the Plants Division, Department of Life Sciences at the Natural History Museum, London. He was a member of staff at the Museum from 1962–1988, retiring as Principal Scientific Officer with responsibility for General Herbarium Section I. Norman produced a worldwide taxonomic monograph of genus ''Hypericum'' between 1977 and 2012. Norman’s interest in ''Hypericum'' was stimulated by a final year project on the British species whilst at Aberdeen University. He continued work on the genus for his PhD at the University of Edinburgh (Robson, 1956) with a thesis entitled ‘Studies in the genus ''Hypericum'' L.’ that examined floral anatomy and evolution. At the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and subsequently at the Natural History Museum, Norman contributed accounts of Hypericum for Floras of various parts of the world. ''Hypericum assamicum'' is a species of flowering plant in the St. John's wort family, Hypericaceae. It is endemic to India. ''Hypericum assamicum'' is one of two species of ''Hypericum'' in the section ''Hypericum'' sect. ''Sampsonia''. Description ''Hypericum assamicum'' is an erect, perennial or suffruticose (woody at the base) herb tall. The stems are terete with internodes , shorter than or exceeding the leaves. The oblong to oblanceolate leaves are perfoliate, in pairs, thinly papery, up to long and broad, with glaucous undersides and obtuse to rounded tips. The margin of the leaf is entire, or rarely glandular-crenate, with dense, black glands. The leaves have broadly cuneate or rounded leaf bases. ''Hypericum sampsonii'' is a species of flowering plant in the St. John's wort family, Hypericaceae. It occurs in China, Taiwan, Japan, Myanmar, and Vietnam. It is one of two species of ''Hypericum'' in the section ''Hypericum'' sect. ''Sampsonia''. Description ''Hypericum sampsonii'' is a perennial herb tall with perfoliate leaves. The thick, papery leaves are lanceolate to oblanceolate, long and across, with pale undersides and dense pale or black glandular dots.
