Hymn Of The 3rd Galaxy
''Hymn of the 3rd Galaxy'' is the third album by American experimental power trio Free Form Funky Frēqs, featuring guitarist Vernon Reid, electric bassist Jamaaladeen Tacuma, and drummer Grant Calvin Weston. It was recorded during 2020–2021 at the musicians' home studios, and was released in 2022 by Ropeadope Records. The album title pays tribute to the 1973 Return to Forever recording ''Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy''. Reid reflected: "That record was very important in my development... Bill Connors' playing on it is so full of fire, but it's also emotionally vulnerable in a way. I was very affected by the compositions, as well." The titles of most of the individual tracks refer to parts of the Milky Way galaxy. Jazz-funk
Jazz-funk is a subgenre of jazz music characterized by a strong back beat (groove), electrified sounds, and an early prevalence of analog synthesizers. The integration of funk, soul, and R&B music and styles into jazz resulted in the creation of a genre whose spectrum is quite wide and ranges from strong jazz improvisation to soul, funk or disco with jazz arrangements, jazz riffs, jazz solos, and sometimes soul vocals. Tom Hull is an American music critic, web designer, and former software developer. Hull began writing criticism for ''The Village Voice'' in the mid 1970s under the mentorship of its music editor Robert Christgau, but left the field to pursue a career in software design and engineering during the 1980s and 1990s, which earned him the majority of his life's income. Kevin Whitehead
Kevin Francis Whitehead (born April 27, 1952 in New York City) is an American jazz critic and author. Biography Whitehead studied at Oswego State University in New York, then earned a Masters in American Literature and Culture at Syracuse University. He began writing in the early 1970s for the short-lived magazine '' Oswego County Times''. In 1979, he wrote his first record review, for Joni Mitchell's ''Mingus''. Since the end of the 1970s, Whitehead has been writing regularly on jazz, including for the NPR program Fresh Air with Terry Gross since 1987, as well as for newspapers and magazines such as ''JazzTimes'', ''Chicago Sun-Times'', ''Chicago Reader'', ''Down Beat'', ''Village Voice'', and the ''Volkskrant''. He lived in the Netherlands in the late 1990s. ''Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy'' is the third studio album by American jazz fusion band Return to Forever. It was released in October 1973 by Polydor. Flora Purim, Joe Farrell, and Airto Moreira were replaced by drummer Lenny White and guitarist Bill Connors. But it would be the only album with Bill Connors as guitarist, he left after its release and was replaced by Al Di Meola. Music Drawing on rock and funk, the album emphasized electric instruments more than Return to Forever's previous albums. Clarke contributed one song for the album while Corea wrote the rest of the material. Corea relied mostly on electric piano and organ. Critical reception Daniel Gioffre for Allmusic wrote, "it is the quality of the compositions that marks ''Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy'' as an indispensable disc of '70s fusion".
