Hymn
A hymn is a type of song, and partially synonymous with devotional song, specifically written for the purpose of adoration or prayer, and typically addressed to a deity or deities, or to a prominent figure or personification. The word ''hymn'' derives from Greek (''hymnos''), which means "a song of praise". A writer of hymns is known as a hymnist. The singing or composition of hymns is called hymnody. Collections of hymns are known as hymnals or hymn books. Hymns may or may not include instrumental accompaniment. Although most familiar to speakers of English in the context of Christianity, hymns are also a fixture of other world religions, especially on the Indian subcontinent (''stotras''). Hymns also survive from antiquity, especially from Egyptian and Greek cultures. Some of the oldest surviving examples of notated music are hymns with Greek texts. Origins Ancient Eastern hymns include the Egyptian ''Great Hymn to the Aten'', composed by Pharaoh Akhenaten; the Hurrian ''Hy ...

Hymnus (Greek Mythology)
In Nonnus' ''Dionysiaca'', Hymnus (Ancient Greek: , meaning "hymn") is a young shepherd who fell in love with the nymph Nicaea, was rejected by her, and ended up dying by her hand. Mythology Hymnus ("hymn") was a young shepherd whom Eros, the god of love, made fall in love with a nymph named Nicaea with a single arrow; Nicaea however was a virgin who wished to remain unmarried, and shunned all possible suitors. One day, a lovesick and desperate Hymnus stole Nicaea's hunting gear, her arrows, her nets, her lance, and quiver, lamenting his misfortune. Nicaea caught him in the action, and he pressured her to shoot him in the heart, so that he might be freed from the soreness of unrequited love. Angered with him, Nicaea obliged and fulfilled with his wish. Hymnus was greatly mourned; Adrasteia, a godddess of justice, alerted Aphrodite and Eros of Nicaea's deeds. Eros then found Dionysus, and shoot him with one of his love arrows, which made Dionysus fall in love with Nicaea, and would ...

Bananamour
''Bananamour'' is the fourth studio album by Kevin Ayers and it featured some of his most accessible recordings, including "Shouting in a Bucket Blues" and his whimsical tribute to Syd Barrett, " Oh! Wot A Dream". After '' Whatevershebringswesing'', Ayers assembled a new band anchored by drummer Eddie Sparrow and bassist Archie Legget and employed a more direct lyricism. The centrepiece of the album is "Decadence", his withering portrait of Nico: "Watch her out there on display / Dancing in her sleepy way / While all her visions start to play / On the icicles of our decay / And all along the desert shore / She wanders further evermore / The only thing that's left to try / She says to live I have to die." The song was later covered by the Australian psychedelic rock band The Church on their 1999 album ''A Box of Birds''. The album marked the end of Ayers' first Harvest Records series. Much Afraid
''Much Afraid'' is the second studio album by American Christian rock band Jars of Clay. It was released in 1997 by Essential Records. Following the charting success of the band's debut album, ''Much Afraid'' was moderately successful, but was unable to achieve the level of its predecessor. Background The title is a reference to Hannah Hurnard's 1955 novel '' Hinds' Feet on High Places'', whose main character was named Much Afraid. The album marked various musical and lyrical differences to its predecessor. "Fade to Grey" and " Frail" were both previously from the group's demo recording '' Frail'' in 1994. All other tracks from that demo were recorded for the debut album '' Jars of Clay'' in 1995. Both songs were changed significantly, especially "Frail", which was previously an instrumental piece and now contained lyrics. Notably, these songs were two of the first songs written by Jars of Clay. The album features the multi-instrumentalist Greg Wells, who went on to produ ...

''Wave'' is the fourth and final studio album by the Patti Smith Group. It was released on May 17, 1979, by Arista Records. Following the album's release, the band disbanded, and frontwoman Patti Smith pursued a solo career nine years later with ''Dream of Life'' (1988). Gone To Earth (Barclay James Harvest Album)
Gone to Earth is the eighth studio album by the English rock group Barclay James Harvest released in 1977. Background "Poor Man's Moody Blues" was written after a journalist angered the band by referring to Barclay James Harvest as a "poor man's Moody Blues". In response, guitarist John Lees wrote a song which sounded like the Moody Blues song " Nights in White Satin", but in fact was cleverly not the same - the words would not fit. Justin Hayward was not pleased; meeting him years later, bassist Les Holroyd apologised for it. Other songs on the album deal with subjects like ended relationships ("Friend of Mine"), alienation ("Leper's Song") the exploitation of animals for their fur ("Spirit on the Water") and the space race ("Sea of Tranquility"). The album's title, ''Gone to Earth,'' refers to the fox hunter's cry used to indicate that the quarry has returned to its lair. The original LP version of the album, designed by Maldwyn Tootill, featured die-cut outer cover and ful ...
