According to Butt Huyton Quarry railway station opened in 1830 as part of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway The Liverpool and Manchester Railway (L&MR) was the first inter-city railway in the world. It opened on 15 September 1830 between the Lancashire towns of Liverpool and Manchester in England. It was also the first railway to rely exclusively ..., but Holt suggests it was originally known as the "station at the bottom of Whiston Incline" being renamed Huyton Quarry sometime after 1838. Either way it was one of the earliest passenger railway stations in the world. The station closed on 15 September 1958. In 2014, an electrical switching site was constructed in the vicinity as part of the Manchester - Liverpool (via Earlestown) section of the NW electrification schemes. Huyton ( ) is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Knowsley, Merseyside, England. Part of the Liverpool Urban Area, it borders the Liverpool suburbs of Dovecot, Knotty Ash and Belle Vale, and the neighbouring village of Roby, with which it formed Huyton with Roby Urban District between 1894 and 1974. Sparkford is a village and civil parish in the South Somerset district of Somerset, England. The parish includes the village of Weston Bampfylde. Whiston railway station serves the village of Whiston in Merseyside, England. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Northern Trains. It lies on the electrified northern route of the Liverpool to Manchester Line, the original Liverpool and Manchester Railway east of Liverpool Lime Street.
