Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (ballet)
''Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'' is a ballet choreographed by Justin Peck to music from French electronic music band M83's album of the same name, which was written by Anthony Gonzalez, Yann Gonzalez, Brad Laner and Justin Meldal-Johnsen. The ballet was commissioned for the San Francisco Ballet's Unbound Festival and premiered on April 20, 2018, at the War Memorial Opera House. Production Background Justin Peck's ''Hurry Up, We're Dreaming'' was commissioned for San Francisco Ballet's Unbound Festival in 2018, in which 12 one-act ballets were created. When the ballet premiered, he was a New York City Ballet soloist, resident choreographer and interim leader, though he had previously made ''In the Countenance of Kings'' for the San Francisco Ballet, stated the troupe is his "favorite company to work with" outside of his home company. Justin Peck
Justin Peck (born September 8, 1987) is an American choreographer, director, and dancer associated with New York City Ballet, of which he was appointed Resident Choreographer in July 2014, being the second person in the history of the institution to hold this title. In 2018 he won the Tony Award for Best Choreography for his work on the third Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's '' Carousel''. Peck also choreographed the 2021 Steven Spielberg film ''West Side Story'', an adaptation of the musical. Early life Peck was born in Washington, D.C., and grew up in San Diego, California. Dores André
Dores André Rodríguez (born 1985) is a Spanish ballet dancer. She is currently a principal dancer at the San Francisco Ballet. Early life André was born in Vigo, Spain, to a professor and a doctor. When she was eleven, she was sent to a small ballet studio at her hometown. Two years later, she was spotted by Maria de Avila at a competition, and joined her school in Zaragoza, which is eight hours away from Vigo. When she was seventeen, she was supposed to compete in the Prix de Lausanne, but had to withdraw after she broke her leg. She considered going to college instead but ultimately chose to pursue a career in ballet. Career André briefly danced in a company in Florence, Italy. Prix Benois De La Danse
The Benois de la Danse is a ballet competition held annually in Moscow. Founded by the International Dance Association in 1991, it takes place each year on or around April 29 and it's judged by a jury. The members of this jury change every year and it consists of only top ballet personages. Statuettes are given to the winners in the categories of lifelong achievement, ballerina, danseur, choreographer, composer and designer. The Benois de la Danse earns a cash prize of $1,000,000, as well as exceptional events occurring during the previous year on stages around the world. Sarah Van Patten
Sarah Van Patten (born 1984) is an American ballet dancer. She began an apprenticeship at the Royal Danish Ballet at age 15. In 2001, at age 17, she became the youngest ever dancer to receive a contract at the company. Later that year, she joined the San Francisco Ballet as a soloist, and was promoted to principal dancer in 2007. She is set to retire from performing in 2022.
