Hurricane Bertie Stakes
The Hurricane Bertie Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for fillies and mares that are four years old or older, over a distance of furlongs on the dirt track held annually in March at Gulfstream Park, Hallandale Beach, Florida. The event currently carries a purse of $125,000. History The race was inaugurated in 2001 over a shorter distance of 6 furlongs and named after the winning mare Hurricane Bertie who won 14 races in her career including the Grade II Princess Rooney Stakes. The following year the event's distance was increased to furlongs. The event was upgraded to a Grade III event in 2005. In 2015 the distance the event was increased to 7 furlongs but in 2021 the distance was reverted to furlongs. Tyler Gaffalione (born September 12, 1994 in Davie, Florida) is an American jockey who, since being voted the Eclipse Award for the 2015 U.S. Champion Apprentice Jockey, has become one of racing's rising stars having won more than 200 races every year in his first three full seasons. Ahmed Zayat (; ar, أحمد الزيات), (born August 31, 1962) is an Egyptian American businessman and owner of Thoroughbred race horses. He is the CEO of Zayat Stables, LLC, a Thoroughbred horse racing business which bred and owns the 2015 Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (United States), Triple Crown winner American Pharoah. Jose Lezcano
Jose Lezcano (born April 20, 1985 in Panama) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. He rides in New York in the spring, summer and fall and spends the winter in Florida. His big break came in 2008 when he won a Breeders' Cup race. Career Lezcano attended the Laffit Pincay Jockey School in his native Panama before moving to the U.S. in January 2003 and launching his career at Gulfstream Park where he earned his first win in March 2004 aboard Cloudy Gray. He spent his first season at Monmouth in 2005, finishing fifth in the standings overall. In 2008, Jose Lezcano won with his first and only Breeders' Cup mount, Maram, in the inaugural edition of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. John R. (born John Richbourg, August 20, 1910 - February 15, 1986) was an American radio disc jockey who attained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for playing rhythm and blues music on Nashville radio station WLAC. He was also a notable record producer and artist manager. Richbourg was arguably the most popular and charismatic of the four announcers at WLAC who showcased popular African-American music in nightly programs from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. (The other three were Gene Nobles, Herman Grizzard, and Bill "Hoss" Allen.) Later rock music disc jockeys, such as Alan Freed and Wolfman Jack, mimicked Richbourg's practice of using speech that simulated African-American street language of the mid-twentieth century. Rajiv Maragh (born July 9, 1985, in Spanish Town, Jamaica) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. An Indo-Jamaican, he is the son of a jockey who rode in Jamaica before relocating to Florida where he began a career as a horse trainer. Rajiv Maragh rode his first winner at Tampa Bay Downs on February 1, 2003. He got his big break in 2008 when he was 14th in the national earnings list.
