County of Blachford is a cadastral unit located in the Australian state of South Australia that covers land between the east coast of Lake Torrens and the western side of the Flinders Ranges about north-east of the city of Port Augusta. It was proclaimed in 1877 and named after Frederic Rogers, 1st Baron Blachford who was the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1860 to 1871. It has been partially divided in the following sub-units of hundreds – Barndioota, Cotabena, Warrakimbo, Wonoka and Woolyana. Description The County of Blachford covers the part of South Australia extending from the east coast of Lake Torrens for about along its northern boundary to the west side of the Flinders Ranges and then extending about to the south of its northern boundary. Flinders Ranges Council is a local government area (LGA) located in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The LGA is approximately 100 km from north to south, and 45 km from east to west, with a total area of 4,198 square kilometres. The main towns within the council are Hawker and Quorn; it also includes the localities of Barndioota, Kanyaka and Stephenston, and part of Bruce, Cradock, Flinders Ranges, Moockra, Saltia, Shaggy Ridge, Wilmington and Yarrah. It was created on 1 January 1997 following the merger of the District Council of Kanyaka-Quorn and the District Council of Hawker. __NOTOC__ Wallerberdina is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about north of the state capital of Adelaide and about west of the town of Hawker. It is located on the plain between Lake Torrens in the west and the Flinders Ranges in the east. Its boundaries approximate those of the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Warrakimbo. The traditional owners of the area are the Banggarla peoples.This name is one of the names used on the widely used Aboriginal Australia Map, by David Horton (ed.), 1994 published in The Encyclopedia of Aboriginal Australia by AIATSIS. Flinders Ranges, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Flinders Ranges is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located in the mountain range of the same name, about north of the state capital of Adelaide, about north-east of the municipal seat in Quorn and about north-east of the regional centre of Port Augusta. Its boundaries were created in April 2013, with the name selected in respect to the ‘long established local name’. Its southern boundary was altered in November 2013 with the addition of land from Hawker and the transfer of land to Shaggy Ridge. The sites of the government towns of Edeowie and Mernmerna are also within its boundaries. These town were both surveyed in 1863. Edeowie Post Office was open from to 1876 and then from 1879 to 1881, while Mernmerna Post Office was open from 1874 to 1881 and then again for a period in 1905. Barndioota, South Australia
Barndioota is a locality and former town in the southern Flinders Ranges west of Hawker. The bounded locality of Barndioota which corresponds to the cadastral Hundred of Barndioota, also includes the former town of Hookina and the site of the ceased Government Town of Barndioota which was surveyed in 1883 and declared ceased to exist in 1929. The traditional owners of the area are the Adnyamathanha peoples. Mount Eyre which is located in the northern part of the locality was "the northernmost point of Eyre's 1839 expedition and named by Governor Gawler on 11 July 1839." Kanyaka Station was a cattle and sheep station in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia located at Kanyaka, approximately north-north-east of Quorn, South Australia. along Hawker-Stirling North Road (B83) History The area was inhabited by Aboriginal people for thousands of years before European settlement. The traditional owners of the area are the Barnggarla people. The name of the station is taken from the Aboriginal word thought to mean ''Place of stone''. Kanyaka Station was established as a cattle station in February 1852 by Hugh Proby (1826−1852). Marree Railway Line
The Marree railway line is located in the Australian state of South Australia. History As a result of the opening up of the Leigh Creek Coalfield in the late 1940s and capacity restrictions on the existing narrow gauge Central Australia Railway via the Flinders Ranges, Marree and Quorn, a new standard gauge line was built, opening on 17 May 1956 from Stirling North on the outskirts of Port Augusta to Telford Cut and on 27 July 1957 to Marree. The line was extended to Marree because of the volume of cattle traffic coming off the Birdsville Track. As well as freight trains, the new line was served by CB railcar services and ''The Ghan''. RM Williams Way
RM Williams Way (route B80) is a road through the Yorke and Mid North region of South Australia connecting Clare in the south through Spalding, Jamestown and Orroroo to Hawker in the Flinders Ranges. The road was named after R. M. Williams who had a strong association with the countryside through which it runs. Route RM Williams Way branches from the Horrocks Highway (Main North Road) in Bungaree, about 13 km north of Clare. It runs roughly north to Spalding where it run concurrent with Goyder Highway for about 4 km as it continues north to Jamestown then Orroroo. Parachilna, South Australia
__NOTOC__ Parachilna ( ) is a country town in South Australia. The town was first surveyed in 1863 due to its closeness to a government water well. It is on the railway line and road between Port Augusta and Leigh Creek. Today, the Prairie Hotel, railway station, airstrip and a few buildings remain. The road east into the Flinders Ranges leads through Parachilna Gorge, recognised for its scenic beauty, to Blinman. The town is surrounded by Motpena station pastoral lease. The town's name is from the Aboriginal ''patajilnda'', meaning "place of peppermint gum trees". The spelling difference is due to an early translation misreading. Quorn is a small town and railhead in the Flinders Ranges in the north of South Australia, northeast of Port Augusta.
