Hundred Of Mount Muirhead
The Hundred of Mount Muirhead is a cadastral division of the County of Grey in southeastern South Australia. It was named on 15 July 1869 for the geographical feature of the same name which, in turn, was named by Charles Bonney for one of his stockmen. Two townships lie within the hundred—Millicent, South Australia, Millicent and Hatherleigh, South Australia, Hatherleigh along with the localities of Sebastopol, South Australia, Sebastopol and Rocky Camp, South Australia, Rocky Camp. Parts of Rendelsham, South Australia, Rendelsham, Furner, South Australia, Furner, Canunda, South Australia, Canunda and Mount Burr, South Australia, Mount Burr localities also overlap the hundred. The hundred includes the northern part of Canunda National Park. Local government The historic Drainage District of Mount Muirhead and Drainage District of Mayurra (established 1882) were located in the vicinity of the hundred. Wattle Range Council
Wattle Range Council is a local government area in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia. It stretches from the coast at Beachport east to the Victorian border. It had a population of over 11,000 as at the 2016 Census. The District Council of Mount Muirhead was a local government area in South Australia from 1888 to 1914. History According to South Australian local government historian Sue Marsden "development of South Australia's South East was greatly helped by drainage schemes. Elsewhere in South Australia the Local Board of Main Roads was the precursor to local government, but in the South East it was district drainage boards." The original South-East Drainage District was formed in April 1876. Part of this district and part of the Tantanoola Drainage District within the vicinity of the Hundred of Mount Muirhead were split off later in 1876 to form a new drainage district called Mount Muirhead Drainage District. Mount Burr is a small town in the south-east of South Australia, about east of Millicent, South Australia, Millicent and about north-west of Mount Gambier, South Australia, Mount Gambier, in the Limestone Coast region. It derives its name from a nearby mountain, Mount Burr. At the 2016 Australian census, Mount Burr had a population of 314. __NOTOC__ Canunda is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the state’s south-east coast overlooking the body of water known in Australia as the Southern Ocean and by international authorities as the Great Australian Bight. Boundaries were created in February 1995 for the “long established name” which is reported as being derived from the “Canunda Conservation Park”. Rendelsham, South Australia
Rendelsham is a town in the south-east of South Australia, south east of the state capital, Adelaide. It is on the Southern Ports Highway between Beachport and Millicent. Rendelsham was also on the narrow-gauge railway between Beachport and Mount Gambier from its opening in 1878 until 1957. When part of the line was converted to broad gauge, the part between Millicent and Beachport was decommissioned instead of converted, removing railway service from Rendelsham.
