The Hundred of Anna is a Cadastral divisions of South Australia, cadastral unit of Hundred (country subdivision), hundred in South Australia. It contains all or most of the localities of Steinfeld, South Australia, Steinfeld, Annadale, South Australia, Annadale and Sandleton, South Australia, Sandleton as well as small parts of the localities of Dutton East, South Australia, Dutton East, Truro, South Australia, Truro and Sedan, South Australia, Sedan. It is one of the 16 hundreds of the County of Eyre. The hundred was named in 1860 by Governor Richard Graves MacDonnell after a daughter of James Chambers (pastoralist), James Chambers, who had funded four of John McDouall Stuart's expeditions. The County of Eyre is one of the Lands administrative divisions of South Australia, 49 cadastral counties of South Australia. It was proclaimed by Governor George Grey in 1842 and named for the explorer Edward John Eyre. Sandleton, South Australia
Sandleton is a locality and former town in South Australia. It is located on the plains on the eastern side of the Mount Lofty Ranges. The current boundaries for the locality were created in 2003 for the long-established name of the area. History The Sandleton area was first known as part of a pastoral run named Sandalwood. This was broken up for closer settlement in the 1870s. A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod formed in 1880, with the St Paul's church and school built in 1881. The post office also opened in 1881. After upheaval in the Lutheran Church, the Pilgrim congregation separated from St Paul's and established its own church, school and cemetery in 1895. A government school also opened in 1909, which operated intermittently until 1941. A new Pilgrim Church building was erected in 1914, and operated until 1960, with the last wedding held in 1947. Mount Lofty Ranges
The Mount Lofty Ranges are a range of mountains in the Australian state of South Australia which for a small part of its length borders the east of Adelaide. The part of the range in the vicinity of Adelaide is called the Adelaide Hills and defines the eastern border of the Adelaide Plains. Location and description The Mount Lofty Ranges stretch from the southernmost point of the Fleurieu Peninsula at Cape Jervis northwards for over before petering out north of Peterborough. In the vicinity of Adelaide, they separate the Adelaide Plains from the extensive plains that surround the Murray River and stretch eastwards to Victoria. The Heysen Trail traverses almost the entire length of the ranges, crossing westwards to the Flinders Ranges near Hallett. John McDouall Stuart
John McDouall Stuart (7 September 18155 June 1866), often referred to as simply "McDouall Stuart", was a Scottish explorer and one of the most accomplished of all Australia's inland explorers. Stuart led the first successful expedition to traverse the Australian mainland from south to north and return, through the centre of the continent. His experience and the care he showed for his team ensured he never lost a man, despite the harshness of the country he encountered. The explorations of Stuart eventually resulted in the 1863 annexation of a huge area of country to the Government of South Australia. This area became known as the Northern Territory. In 1911 the Commonwealth of Australia assumed responsibility for that area. In 1871–72 the Australian Overland Telegraph Line was constructed along Stuart's route. Sir Richard Graves MacDonnell (; 3 September 1814 – 5 February 1881) was an Anglo-Irish lawyer, judge and colonial governor. His posts as governor included Governor of the British Settlements in West Africa, Governor of Saint Vincent, Governor of South Australia, Governor of Nova Scotia and Governor of Hong Kong. Sedan is a rural town in South Australia. It is located about 100 kilometres east of Adelaide and about 20 kilometres west of the Murray River.
