The Farm (British Band)
The Farm are a British band from Liverpool. Their first album, ''Spartacus'', reached the top position on the UK Albums Chart when it was released in March 1991; ''Spartacus 30'' was released in 2021 to commemorate the anniversary. ''Spartacus'' includes two songs which had been top 10 singles the year before. In 2012, they toured with their Spartacus Live shows and formed part of the Justice Tonight Band, supporting the Stone Roses at Heaton Park, Phoenix Park, Lyon and Milan. The Justice Collective had the 2012 Christmas number one with their recording of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother". Chris Wilson (born September 10, 1952 in Waltham, Massachusetts) is a guitarist and multi instrumentalist, most known for his role as the singer of the best-remembered line-up San Francisco band the Flamin' Groovies, having replaced original singer Roy Loney in 1971. Cyril Jordan
Cyril Jordan (born August 31, 1948 in San Francisco) is a guitarist and founding member of San Francisco cult band the Flamin' Groovies. Jordan founded the band in 1965, playing with them until they initially disbanded in 1992. His song "Shake Some Action", co-written with Chris Wilson, appeared in the 1995 movie ''Clueless''. After the death of George Harrison in 2001, Cyril performed a tribute with a band known as the New Moondogs at a special charity event at CD Land in Palo Alto, California. Cyril also backed up Gordon Waller (of Peter and Gordon) at the same venue a few months later. Jordan designed many of the earliest Flamin' Groovies handbills and has subsequently worked as an artist and illustrator. Peter Hooton
Peter Hooton (born 28 September 1962) is the vocalist of Liverpool-based group the Farm. He was also its sole founder member in 1983, overseeing its rise to prominence with two top 10 singles in 1990, its breakup in 1996 and reformation in 2004. Biography Hooton was born in Everton and moved to the new Cantril Farm estate as a child. In about 1980, he landed a job as a youth worker on the estate, the nickname for which inspired the name of his band "The Farm". In 1981, Hooton was the founding editor of ''The End'', a music and football fanzine aimed at young, working-class readers and initially inspired by an anarchist zine attacking that year's royal wedding. ''Select'' was a United Kingdom music magazine of the 1990s. It was known for covering indie rock, but featured a wide array of music. Launched in July 1990, its first cover star was Prince. After EMAP Metro bought ''Select'', they revamped its image, and it became known for its coverage of Britpop, a term coined in the magazine by Stuart Maconie. Its 1993 "Yanks Go Home" edition, featuring The Auteurs, Denim, Saint Etienne, Pulp and Suede's Brett Anderson on the cover in front of a Union Flag, was an important impetus in defining the movement's opposition to American genres such as grunge. Later, John Harris stepped down as editor, and was replaced by former ''Mixmag'' editor Alexis Petridis. Under Petridis, the magazine's image moved back towards its coverage on an eclectic array of music, aiming to reach what Petridis described as "a wide range of music fans". ''Q'' was a popular music magazine published monthly in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1986 by broadcast journalists Mark Ellen and David Hepworth, who were presenters of the BBC television music series ''The Old Grey Whistle Test''. Madchester was a musical and cultural scene that developed in the English city of Manchester in the late 1980s, closely associated with the indie dance scene. Indie-dance (sometimes referred to as indie-rave) saw artists merging indie music with elements of acid house, psychedelia and 1960s pop.
