Hugo Kranz
Hugo Carl Kranz (13June 18341June 1902) was a German-born businessman and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Waterloo North in the House of Commons of Canada from 1878 to 1887 as a Conservative member. Biography Kranz was born on 13 June 1834 at Lehrbach in the Grand Duchy of Hesse, which was a part of the German Confederation. He was the only son of Charles Kranz. He was educated at the ''Polytechnische Schule'' of Darmstadt and came to the United States with his father in 1851. After four years, the father and son moved to Berlin, Ontario ( later known as Kitchener). His father opened a general store there in partnership with Henry Stroh. Hugo became involved in running the store and took over its operations in 1875 after his father's death. It was advertised in an 1884 municipal directory as C. Kranz & Son. Isaac Erb Bowman
Isaac Erb Bowman (17August 18323September 1897) was an Ontario businessman and political figure. He represented Waterloo North in the House of Commons of Canada as a Liberal member from 1867 to 1878 and from 1887 to 1896. He was born Isaac Erb Baumann in Woolwich Township in Upper Canada in 1832, the son of John B. Bowman; his parents had moved there from Pennsylvania in 1820. He attended school at the Rockwood Academy in Rockwood, Ontario. For a time, he taught school in the region. Bowman was a partner in a business that sold books in Berlin ( later known as Kitchener) and in a tannery in St. Jacobs. He served as clerk and treasurer for the township and was also postmaster for St. Jacobs. He served as president of the Ontario Mutual Life Insurance Company and the Mercantile Fire Insurance Company. Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate and Vocational School, commonly called Kitchener Collegiate Institute or KCI, is a public secondary school in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. It is a member of the Waterloo Region District School Board. The school dates from 1855, making it one of the oldest high schools in Kitchener and Waterloo. Its sports teams are known as the Raiders. History The school opened on April 2, 1855, as the Berlin Senior Boys' Grammar School. It was initially located at the corner of King and Eby streets in the downtown area; tuition was five shillings per month. From 1857 to 1871, it occupied space in the Berlin Central School (now Suddaby Public School) on Frederick Street. Girls were admitted to the school in 1866. With increasing numbers at the Central School, the school moved to the former Swedenborgian Church on Church Street.
