Hugh Turner (footballer, Born 1917)
Hugh Peter Turner (12 May 1917 – 1992), also known as Hughie Turner, was an English footballer who played as a full back in the Football League for Darlington. Biography Turner was born in 1917 in Middlesbrough, which was then in the North Riding of Yorkshire. He began his football career as a wing half with local team South Bank St Peters, turned professional with First Division club Middlesbrough in 1935, and remained with the club for four seasons, during which time he was converted to play at right back. He played for Middlesbrough's "A" team in the North Eastern League, but never managed to break into the senior team, and left for Darlington in August 1939. Middlesbrough ( ) is a town on the southern bank of the River Tees in North Yorkshire, England. It is near the North York Moors national park. Stockton-on-Tees, often simply referred to as Stockton, is a market town in the Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It is on the northern banks of the River Tees, part of the Teesside built-up area. The town had an estimated population of 84,318 in 2011. It is included in the Tees Valley mayoralty. 1946–47 Football League
The 1946–47 season was the 48th completed season of The Football League. This season was the first to feature a full football programme since the 1938–39 campaign. Division placings were the same as in the unfinished 1939–40 Football League. Final division tables Beginning with the season 1894–95, clubs finishing level on points were separated according to goal average (goals scored divided by goals conceded), or more properly put, goal ratio. In case one or more teams had the same goal difference, this system favoured those teams who had scored fewer goals. The goal average system was eventually scrapped beginning with the 1976–77 season.
