Huang Yi (Qing Dynasty)
Huang Yi () (1744-1801), a.k.a. Da Yi; Qiu An; Xiao Song was a Chinese calligrapher, painter, and seal artist during the Qing dynasty. Huang was from Hangzhou. He served briefly as a government official in Yanzhou District, but was primarily a painter and seal carver. A student of Ding Jing Ding Jing () (1695–1765), aka Ding Jingshen was a Chinese calligrapher, painter, and seal artist. Ding was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou). Ding Jing
Ding Jing () (1695–1765), aka Ding Jingshen was a Chinese calligrapher, painter, and seal artist. Ding was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou). His earlier works show the influence of Wen Peng and He Zhen, but he soon developed his own style and together with several of his students founded the Zhejiang School (or simplye Zhe School) of seal carving. This style of carving focused on revitalising the art by adopting older, simpler Han dynasty characters. Weng Fanggang
Weng Fanggang () (1733 - 1818) was a Chinese calligrapher, literary critic, philosopher, and poet during the Qing dynasty. A native of Beijing's Daxing District, Weng came to the attention of the Qianlong Emperor who was impressed with Weng's translation of the ''Peach Blossom Spring'' (桃花源 ''Tao Hua Yuan'') by Tao Yuanming into the Manchu language. He was employed at court as a junior compiler, and later rose to become a member of the Grand Secretariat. Despite holding government posts in Shandong, Jiangxi and Jiangsu, Weng spend most of his professional life in Beijing, so as to be close to the literati of his day. Weng proposed the imposition of classical rules on poetry, in an attempt to curb what he saw as the weaker, more abstract works of his contemporaries, particularly those who followed the style of Wang Yangming.
