Howard Wellman
Howard Wellman (born July 23, 1944, in Bluefield, West Virginia) is a political leader who has held multiple state offices in West Virginia and currently serves as 49th Sergeant at Arms of the West Virginia Senate. Education Wellman is a 1962 graduate of Montcalm High School in Montcalm, West Virginia and completed a Bachelor of Science degree at Bluefield State College. Personal life Wellman is the son of David and Betty Wellman. He is married to Beverly (Crane) Wellman and has two children Wendy and Jennifer. Political career Wellman served the State of West Virginia as Assistant to the Commissioner of the Department of Highways from 1978 to 1980. Montcalm High School
Montcalm High School, a "school within a school", is located in Montcalm, West Virginia, United States. It is the smallest secondary school in the Mercer County Schools district, and currently has approximately 375 students enrolled in grades 7-12. History MHS began in 1931, housing grades 7-10. 11th and 12th grade students went on to Bramwell High School. In 1954, a west wing was added to accommodate much needed classrooms, which allowed students to graduate from this school for the first time. In 1964, a gymnasium was built. Montcalm is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mercer County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 726 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bluefield, WV- VA micropolitan area which has a population of 107,342. Residents of Montcalm are called Montcalmers. History The first record of continuous European settlement of the Montcalm area is the 1840 census of Mercer County in what was then the state of Virginia. A 700-acre farm, located where Crane Creek joins the Bluestone, was the property of George Bailey. He, his wife, and six children lived on the farm that included a farmhouse, likely located on the lower slopes of Tabernacle Mountain, an orchard and in what would be today's Main Street, and a field of timothy grass. Bluefield State University (Bluefield State) is a university in Bluefield, West Virginia that is an historically black university. It is a part of West Virginia's public education system and converted to a university in the summer of 2022. It added residential housing options that include double or single rooms with full meal plans. Bluefield State University is a member school of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Jay Rockefeller
John Davison "Jay" Rockefeller IV (born June 18, 1937) is a retired American politician who served as a United States senator from West Virginia (1985–2015). He was first elected to the Senate in 1984, while in office as governor of West Virginia (1977–85). Rockefeller moved to Emmons, West Virginia, to serve as a VISTA worker in 1964 and was first elected to public office as a member of the West Virginia House of Delegates (1966-1968). Rockefeller was later elected secretary of state of West Virginia (1968–1973) and was president of West Virginia Wesleyan College (1973–1975).
