How To Be A Player (soundtrack)
''Def Jam's How to Be a Player soundtrack'' is the soundtrack to the 1997 comedy film, ''Def Jam's How to Be a Player''. It was released on August 5, 1997, through Def Jam Recordings. The soundtrack, which consisted of a blend of hip hop and contemporary R&B, did well on the ''Billboard'' charts, peaking at 7 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and 2 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Six weeks later the album was certified Gold by the RIAA for sales of over 500,000 copies. Foxy Brown and Dru Hill's single "Big Bad Mamma" was the soundtrack's most successful single, peaking at 53 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100. Absoulute's "Never Wanna Let You Go" also made it the ''Billboard'' charts, reaching the R&B chart. "Young Casanovas" was also a single and had a music video. The soundtrack version featured Mase singing the hook, while the music video version had LeVert singing it in his place. The music video version was also shorter. Mason Durell Betha (born August 27, 1975), better known by his mononym Mase (formerly Murda Mase and stylized as Ma$e), is an American rapper and minister. In the late 1990s, he recorded on the Bad Boy Records label alongside its founder Sean "Diddy" Combs to significant mainstream success. Bruce Edward Washington Jr. (April 3, 1973July 10, 2015), better known by his stage name Hussein Fatal or sometimes as Fatal Hussein, was an American rapper, best known for his collaborative work with Tupac Shakur as a member of the rap group Outlaw Immortalz or just Outlawz. Early life Fatal was born Bruce Edward Washington Jr. on April 3, 1973. Career Washington first appeared as "Hussein Fatal" in February 1996 on the songs "All Bout U" and "When We Ride" from Shakur's album ''All Eyez on Me''. As a member of the Outlaw Immortalz, his name was chosen to evoke a villain, Iraqi president Saddam Hussein. Michael Craig McDermon (born September 14, 1973, in Queens, New York), better known by his stage name Mic Geronimo, is an American rapper who was acquainted with Irv Gotti of Murder Inc. Gotti and his brother met Mic Geronimo at a Queens high school talent show, and Mic agreed to record a single ("Shit's Real"), which became a classic underground hit. James Ambrose Johnson Jr. (February 1, 1948 – August 6, 2004), better known by his stage name Rick James, was an American singer-songwriter, musician and record producer. Born and raised in Buffalo, New York, James began his musical career in his teenage years. He was in various bands before entering the U.S. Navy Reserve to avoid being drafted into the army.
