''Youth'' is the sixth studio album by Collective Soul, released in November 2004. The album was the band's first on their own label, El Music Group, EL Music Group, after leaving Atlantic Records following the release of their greatest hits album, ''Seven Year Itch (Collective Soul album), Seven Year Itch''. The album contains a more balanced pop-rock sound than their previous albums ''Dosage (album), Dosage'' and ''Blender (Collective Soul album), Blender''. Background After 2000's ''Blender'' both Ed and Dean Roland went through divorces. The band attempted to work through these circumstances and, according to Dean, at one point had enough material for two albums. However said material was darker and the band wanted the songs to have "a more positive, 'light at the end of the tunnel'-type vibe". Atlantic Recording Corporation (simply known as Atlantic Records) is an American record label founded in October 1947 by Ahmet Ertegun and Herb Abramson. Shane Evans (musician)
Shane Evans (born April 26, 1970) is an American musician. He was the original drummer for the rock band Collective Soul. Life and career Early life and career beginnings Evans was raised in Stockbridge, Georgia. After graduating from Stockbridge High School, he began his career as a professional drummer for the band Marching Two-Step, which included Michele Rhea Caplinger, Ed Roland and Matt Serletic. The band performed local gigs for a few years, but never managed to grow beyond the club scene. Collective Soul Evans performed on half of the tracks featured on ''Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid'', an album consisting of Ed Roland's songwriting demos. Joel Sefton Kosche ( ; born September 20, 1969) is an American musician. He is best known for his thirteen-year tenure as the lead guitarist of the rock band Collective Soul. He is also a solo artist, and tours with his backing band, Joel Kosche Band. His debut solo album, ''Fight Years'', was released in 2010. Life and career Kosche self-taught himself to play guitar at age 13, and later trained in classical guitar. Active in Atlanta's music scene, he co-founded the band Rhapsody, and in 1994, along with other members of Rhapsody, he co-founded the progressive rock band Jovian Storm which achieved local success with the album ''Magic Show''. The album was released on Atlantic Records in February 1999 and peaked at number 21 on the '' Billboard'' albums chart. The album's title was derived from a catchphrase they used to describe burnout after their previous tour. The first single from the album, "Heavy", gave the band another number-one hit on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and spent a then record-breaking 15 weeks on the top spot.
