Alta Gwendolyn Gaze (6 September 1915 – 29 August 2010) was an American-based film actress (1937–1943), born in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Gaze was a graduate of Pasadena Junior College in California and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, England. She acted in several productions while she was in England. After relocating to the United States, she acted in Little Theatre productions. She also appeared in ''The Women'' on stage in New York. Gaze was signed by Universal Pictures, making her film debut opposite John Wayne in '' I Cover the War'' (1937)''. American comedy films are comedy films produced in the United States. The genre is one of the oldest in American cinema; some of the first silent movies were comedies, as slapstick comedy often relies on visual depictions, without requiring sound. Frank Sidney Hagney (20 March 1884 – 25 June 1973) was an Australian actor. He is known for his work on ''It's a Wonderful Life'' (1946), ''Ride Him, Cowboy'' (1932) and '' The Sea Beast'' (1926). Early and career Born in Sydney, New South Wales in 1884, Hagney appeared in more than 350 Hollywood films between 1919 and 1966. Most of his film roles were small and uncredited. Because of his tall and strong appearance, Hagney often played officers or henchmen. He is perhaps best-known as Mr. Potter's silent, wheelchair-pushing valet in Frank Capra's classic ''It's a Wonderful Life'' (1946). Vernon Bruce Dent (February 16, 1895 – November 5, 1963) was an American comic actor, who appeared in over 400 films. He co-starred in many short films for Columbia Pictures, frequently as the foil and the main antagonist and ally to The Three Stooges. Early career In the early 1920s, Dent was a fixture at the Mack Sennett studio, working with comedians Billy Bevan, Andy Clyde, and especially Harry Langdon. Dent alternately played breezy pals and blustery authority figures opposite Langdon's timid character. Sennett voided all contracts when it came time to retool his studio for sound, and Dent moved to Educational Pictures in 1929. Dent's supporting performances were frequently funnier than the sometimes uninspired antics of the nominal stars. Monte Collins (also credited as Monty Collins; December 3, 1898 – June 1, 1951) was an American film actor and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 160 films between 1920 and 1948. He also wrote for 32 films between 1930 and 1951. Career Dapper, pencil-mustached Collins starred in silent short comedies in the late 1920s. These were produced by Educational Pictures and often directed by Jules White. Prior, he had worked as a director in Portland, Oregon. The coming of sound in movies had no ill effect on Collins's career; he was not as big a name as Buster Keaton or Laurel and Hardy, so Collins had no preconceived screen image that could be shattered by talkies. Guy Duncan Kingsford (September 30, 1911 – November 9, 1986) was an English-born American film, television, and radio actor. Biography Born in Redhill, Surrey in the United Kingdom, he was the son of British actor Walter Kingsford who moved with his wife to New York City. In 1938 he was in the theatrical production Once is Enough. He was in the US Army during World War II. He performed in a vaudeville-style variety show at Camp Sibert alongside other enlisted industry professionals. According to Sidney Skolsky, when Kingsford was traveling in Berlin, Germany that same year as part of a touring company, the Reich Film Chamber tried to recruit him to act in a propaganda film. In the role, he would have portrayed a "so-called "patriot" who would turn over United States military secrets to the German High Command."
