Karen Young (American Singer)
Karen Young (March 23, 1951 — January 26, 1991) was an American disco singer known for her 1978 hit song " Hot Shot". Biography Young grew up in a Northeast Philadelphia rowhouse. She began as a singer of jingles and backing vocalist for Philadelphia-based production companies. In the early 1970s, she performed with the group Sandd, featuring Frank Gilckin (lead guitar), George Emertz (rhythm guitar), Frank Ferraro (bass guitar) and Dennis Westman (drums). In 1978, Young released the single "Hot Shot", written and produced by (Andy) Andrew Kahn and Kurt Borusiewicz. The song spent two weeks at number 1 on ''Billboards disco chart and eventually peaked at number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. An album, also titled ''Hot Shot,'' was then released by West End Records of New York City. The song propelled Young to international fame. Andrew Kahn
Andrew Kahn (born July 23, 1952), frequently credited as Andy Kahn, is a music composer, arranger and producer who was most active in the dance and disco scene in the late 1970s. In 1978, he wrote and produced Karen Young's song, " Hot Shot", for West End Records. The song entered into many of ''Billboard's'' sixteen regional Disco Action charts in July, August and September of that year, reaching the number one spot in ''Billboard's'' national Disco Action Top 40 chart on August 5, 1978, for two weeks. Walter Kahn
Walter B. "Kandor" Kahn (April 9, 1948 – June 15, 2013) was an American DJ and record producer. Born in Philadelphia, Kahn graduated from Harriton High School in 1966 and earned a degree in radio, television and film from Temple University in 1970. He has lived in Merion Station, Society Hill and Queen Village, Philadelphia, as well as Los Angeles and Clearwater, Florida. Kahn began his music career as a Top 40 radio DJ/announcer and recording engineer. His early music productions include "Loves Me Like A Rock", written by Paul Simon, performed by The Dixie Hummingbirds, and released on ABC Records. In 1974, he was awarded a Grammy for producing that recording. In 1978, he was executive producer of "Hot Shot" by Karen Young, which reached #1 on Billboard Magazine's Top Dance Singles chart. "Hot Shot" is a 1978 song written and produced by Andrew Kahn and Kurt Borusiewicz, and recorded by American singer Karen Young. The song was included on her debut studio album of the same name. "Hot Shot" was released as the lead single from the album and reached number one on the US Billboard disco chart for the week of August 5, 1978 and spent two weeks there. The single also crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100, where it only got as far as number 67 that same year. In 2007, nearly 30 years after the original charted and 16 years after Young's death, MaxRoxx Music released "Hot Shot: The Karen Young Reheat," which is a revamped version of "Hot Shot," this time with new mixes using the original's vocals.
