Hot FM (Australian Radio Network)
Hot FM was a radio network broadcasting to Queensland and Western Australia. Owned and operated by Southern Cross Austereo, the stations broadcast a mix of local and networked programming. On 15 December 2016, the stations were merged into the Hit Network. History The first Hot FM branded station was launched in Townsville by Rural Press in 1994. This was followed by successive launches in Mackay and Cairns, before a sale to DMG Regional Radio saw the brand expand throughout Queensland and into Western Australia. In 2004, Hot FM and its heritage sister stations - including the RadioWest network in Western Australia - were sold to Macquarie Regional RadioWorks. In 2005, following DMG's purchase of an FM radio licence in Brisbane, Hot 91.1 Sunshine Coast was sold to A Investments, and later to Prime Media Group. Prime Media Group Limited (formerly Prime Television Limited) was an Australian-based media corporation that formerly owned regional television network Prime7 in eastern Australia and GWN7 in regional Western Australia. Resonate Broadcasting is an Australian media company, operating radio stations across various centres across regional Queensland, as well as Hawaii. Formed in 2008, it currently operates 16 radio stations across Australia and the United States. History Resonate Broadcasting was founded in 2008 by Rex Morris and Guy Dobson. The former was the group Program Director for Austereo's Triple M Network, based in Brisbane, while the Dobson was Austereo's CEO. West FM (Queensland)
West FM is a commercial radio station in regional Queensland, Australia. Owned and operated by Resonate Broadcasting, the station commenced broadcasting to Longreach on 26 June 1997, expanding to Charleville in 2016, and Charters Towers in 2017. History West FM commenced broadcasting in Longreach after sister station 4LG was granted a secondary FM licence. On 27 July 1999, Triple C FM commenced broadcasting to Charleville, a sister station to 4VL. Both Triple C and 4VL would later be sold to the Smart Radio Group, and in 2011 to the Macquarie Radio Network. Following the sale of Macquarie's Queensland assets to Resonate Broadcasting, in 2016 Triple C FM rebranded as West FM and commenced sharing programming with the Longreach station of the same name. Hit Central Queensland
hit Central Queensland is a radio station in Central Queensland part of the Hit Network. The station is owned by Southern Cross Austereo. History In the late 1990s, DMG Regional Radio successfully bid for an FM broadcasting license for a radio station in the Rockhampton/Gladstone market in Central Queensland. In October 2000, Hot FM was launched. The station was a new addition to the existing Hot FM network of stations, also owned by DMG Regional Radio. The Central Queensland Hot FM station was originally created to attract the younger demographics that didn't listen to DMG's established classic hits station, Gladstone's 4CC which also broadcast to Rockhampton. The station originally broadcast its local breakfast program from a studio in Rockhampton, and sourced its daytime and overnight programming from Hot FM Townsville. Fox FM (Melbourne)
Fox FM (call sign: 3FOX) is a commercial FM radio station broadcasting in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, on a frequency of 101.9 MHz, and is the flagship station on Southern Cross Austereo's Hit Network. The station's transmitter is shared with the ATV-10 transmitter on top of Mount Dandenong. History Fox FM started life at 5PM on 1 August 1980. The station was put together by radio consultant and 1960s/1970s radio personality and programmer Rhett H. Walker, who also acted as first General Manager. This followed a successful stint for Walker as a consultant for Radio 3KZ in 1979. One of Fox FM's original advertising lines was 'Catch the Fox'. The original announcing team consisted of Mike Jeffries, John Aimes, Ralphe Rickman, Rod McNeil, Graham Braddy, Richard Combe, and overnight announcers Geoff Harrison, Noel Miller and Peter Acfield. 2Day FM (call sign 2DAY) is a commercial FM radio station broadcasting in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, on a frequency of 104.1 MHz, and is part of Southern Cross Austereo's Hit Network. History 1980s 2Day FM was one of three radio stations (along with Triple M and Triple J) to be granted new FM broadcasting licenses in Sydney in 1980, and commenced broadcasting on 2 August of that year. The original owners were well known media personalities John Laws (30%), Mike Willesee (30%), Village Roadshow (30%) and Graham Kennedy (10%). The network consists of 41 radio stations broadcasting a hot adult contemporary music format, as well as 6 digital radio stations. History The Hit Network was formed in 1986 as the Austereo Network after Austereo, the licensee of Adelaide commercial radio station SAFM, purchased Fox FM in Melbourne. Star FM was an Australian radio network, consisting of Top 40/CHR formatted stations in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia. The brand was created by NOVA Entertainment, then known as DMG Regional Radio, in 1999, with the network being sold to Southern Cross Austereo. Programming The network's stations are aimed at the under-35 section of the market, playing Top 40 and popular music. Some Sea FM stations were later sold to meet media ownership requirements. Austereo was an Australian mass media company based in Melbourne. It was founded in 1980 by Paul Thompson, and operated 16 radio stations in metropolitan and regional Australia under the Today Network and Triple M brands. In 2011, the company's majority shareholder Village Roadshow sold its shareholding to Southern Cross Media Group, which began trading as Southern Cross Austereo from 21 July.
