"Hope" is the second official single from American musician Jack Johnson (musician), Jack Johnson's album ''Sleep Through the Static''. It was released in May 2008 as a digital download. Music video First version The first version of the video was released in May 2008 and consists only of Johnson performing the song with his band in the studio (similar to the "If I Had Eyes" video). Second version The second version was shown on many music channels in December 2008 and was directed by Stephen Hopkins (director), Stephen Hopkins. The video was taped during one of Johnson's live performances in the "Sleep Through the Static Tour". It starts with a clip of the singer taking the stage with his backing band and as the song flows, the audience in the venue begins to dance slowly with music. Jack Hody Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is an American singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and former professional surfer. Johnson is known primarily for his work in the soft rock and acoustic pop genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, ''Brushfire Fairytales''. Johnson has reached number one on the ''Billboard'' 200 chart with his albums ''Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George'' in 2006, ''Sleep Through the Static'' in 2008, ''To the Sea'' in 2010 and ''From Here to Now to You'' in 2013. His album ''In Between Dreams'' peaked at number two on the chart in 2005 and again in 2013. Johnson is active in environmentalism and sustainability, often with a focus on the world's oceans. ''Sleep Through the Static'' is the fourth studio album by singer-songwriter Jack Johnson, released in the United States on February 5, 2008. The album was announced on Johnson's website as renovation began for the release of the album. It was recorded at the Los Angeles Solar Powered Plastic Plant, which makes it Johnson's first album made outside of Hawaii. It was produced by JP Plunier. The album was played live for the first time at the BBC in December for a select number of fans. Despite having been reviewed mostly unenthusiastically by professional music critics, worldwide sales of the album were on par with Johnson's previous albums. The first single, " If I Had Eyes", was released via Johnson's MySpace page on December 11, 2007. Acoustic music is music that solely or primarily uses instruments that produce sound through acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means.
