''Hooked on Winning'' is a 1982 album by the Maddy Prior band. Subsequent to its original release on vinyl on Kempire Records KMPA001 and then Plant Life, the album was unavailable for many years, until its 2011 re-release on CD on the Park Records label as part of a two album set with follow-up Going for Glory. Maddy Prior
Madelaine Edith Prior MBE (born 14 August 1947) is an English folk singer, best known as the lead vocalist of Steeleye Span. She was born in Blackpool and moved to St Albans in her teens. Her father, Allan Prior, was co-creator of the police drama ''Z-Cars''. She was married to Steeleye bass guitarist Rick Kemp, and their daughter, Rose Kemp, is also a singer. Their son, Alex Kemp, is, like his father, a guitarist and has deputised for his father playing bass guitar for Steeleye Span. She was part of the singing duo 'Mac & Maddy', with Mac MacLeod. She then performed with Tim Hart and recorded two albums with him, before they helped to found the group Steeleye Span, in 1969. She left Steeleye Span in 1997, but returned in 2002, and has toured with them since. With June Tabor she was the singing duo Silly Sisters. Plant Life Records
Plant Life Records was a record label that existed from 1977 until 1984. It was formed by Nigel Pegrum, at that time drummer for Steeleye Span. Maddy Prior recorded one album for the label, as did Wizz Jones in 1977. Its most successful recordings were by The Tannahill Weavers and Blowzabella. Most of the thirty or so albums were produced by Pegrum and seven were produced by Paul James. Late in its life, the label began issuing records under licence from other labels and was linked to the Burlington record label, which was also issued with the Plant Life logo on the later labels. Rick Kemp
Frederick Stanley 'Rick' Kemp (born 15 November 1941) is an English bass player, guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and record producer, best known for his work with the British folk rock band Steeleye Span. Projects In the 1960s, he shot to prominence through his work with singer-songwriter Michael Chapman, and had a reputation within the music industry as a rock and blues session bassist, before his transition into British folk rock. Kemp joined Steeleye Span in 1972, left in 1986, rejoined in 2000, and left again at the end of 2016. In 1971 Kemp auditioned for King Crimson, and got the gig shortly before the band recorded their album ''Islands''. However, he turned down the opportunity to join them permanently, and reportedly departed the band after just a week, with his role as bassist being filled by singer Boz Burrell. Mick Dyche
Mick Dyche (4 October 1951 – 21 December 2018) was an English rock and folk guitarist, and former member of 1970s soft rock band Sniff 'n' the Tears. He was known for playing guitar on their only major hit " Driver's Seat", for which he also provided the opening guitar riff, as credited by former bandmate Laurence "Loz" Netto in a 2005 interview with Lars Hindsley. Born in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England, he had appeared on Wild Turkey's 1972 album, ''Turkey'', as a guitarist and vocalist; on Tim Rose's 1975 LP ''The Musician''; and on Snips' 1978 LP ''Video King''; before joining Sniff 'n' the Tears. After Sniff 'n' the Tears, Dyche played live and recorded with a range of bands and musicians, including the Pat Travers Band, Noel McCalla, John Illsley, The Hank Wangford Band and The Maddy Prior Band.
