Hong Kong competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. It was the territory's thirteenth appearance at the Olympics and, at the opening ceremony, its team was the last to enter the stadium before the host nation because of the use of the Greek alphabet. The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China sent a total of 32 athletes to the Games, 18 women and 14 men, to compete in 10 sports, surpassing only a single athlete short of the record from Sydney four years earlier. For the first time in Olympic history, Hong Kong was represented by more female than male athletes. Thirteen of them had previously competed in Sydney, including track cyclist Wong Kam Po, Mistral windsurfer and 1996 Olympic champion Lee Lai Shan, and backstroke swimmer Sherry Tsai, who eventually became the nation's flag bearer in the opening ceremony. The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (Traditional Chinese: 中國香港體育協會暨奧林匹克委員會; in short SF&OC, 港協暨奧委會) is the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Hong Kong. Zhang Ning
Zhang Ning (; born 19 May 1975) is a former Chinese badminton player. She won the Olympic gold medal twice for women's singles in both 2004 and 2008. She has played badminton on the world scene since the mid-1990s and has been particularly successful since 2002 while in her late twenties and early thirties, relatively late for singles at the highest level, and especially for top players in the Chinese system who are developed very early. She is known for her consistency of shot, deception and constant pressure, dictating the pace of rallies and working her opponents in all four corners of the court. Yao is one of a number of badminton players who have emigrated from China, in part, because the depth of badminton talent in that country has made it difficult for them to be selected for major international competitions. Wang Chen (; born 21 June 1976) is a Chinese badminton player who later represented Hong Kong. Personal life Wang married mainland Chinese badminton player Zheng Yumin in 2002. Their son Zheng Xingjun (鄭星駿）Longlong (龍龍) was born in 2012，second son Zheng Xingrong (鄭星榮） was born in 2015. Cheng Shao-chieh (; born 4 January 1986) is a badminton player from Taiwan. Cheng played badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics for the Republic of China as Chinese Taipei. In women's singles, she defeated Ling Wan Ting of Hong Kong and Jun Jae-youn of South Korea in the first two rounds. In the quarterfinals, Cheng lost to Gong Ruina of China 3–11, 3–11. Datuk Lee Chong Wei (; born 21 October 1982) is a Malaysian former badminton player. As a singles player, Lee was ranked first worldwide for 349 weeks, including a 199-week streak from 21 August 2008 to 14 June 2012.
