''Home of the Brave'' is a 1986 American concert film directed by, and featuring the music of, Laurie Anderson. The film's full on-screen title is ''Home of the Brave: A Film by Laurie Anderson''. The performances were filmed at the Park Theater in Union City, NJ, during the summer of 1985. Background The film included appearances by guitarist Adrian Belew, author William S. Burroughs, keyboardist Joy Askew, and percussionist David Van Tieghem. Barry Sonnenfeld, who was early in his movie-making career, receives an early film credit for operating second projection camera on this film. The film was released by Cinecom Pictures, but it was commercially unsuccessful. A soundtrack album, which contained studio versions of some songs from the film, and live versions of others, was released concurrently with the film (see ''Home of the Brave'' LP). Laurel Philips Anderson (born June 5, 1947), known as Laurie Anderson, is an American avant-garde artist, composer, musician, and film director whose work spans performance art, pop music, and multimedia projects. ''What You Mean We?'' is a 1986 American made-for-television musical short film starring the performance artist Laurie Anderson, who also wrote and directed the piece. Overview Originally produced as a segment of the PBS arts series ''Alive from Off Center'', the film runs a little less than a half-hour and is broken into several segments. The film begins with Anderson being interviewed on a faux talk show (the interviewer's voice is provided by Spalding Gray), talking about how her popularity and workload has become too much for one person to handle. So, after speaking to some scientists, she has cloned herself. The Clone is introduced: due to some complications in the process, however, the Clone is only about half the size of Anderson, and has distinctive male characteristics (like a mustache) and an electronically distorted voice. Thomas Alan Waits (born December 7, 1949) is an American musician, composer, songwriter, and actor. His lyrics often focus on the underbelly of society and are delivered in his trademark deep, gravelly voice. ''Puppet Motel'' is a 1995 CD-ROM developed by The Voyager Company and released exclusively for the Apple Macintosh. Written and featuring by American singer-performance artist Laurie Anderson and designed by Hsin-Chien Huang, the CD-ROM is a mixture of video, audio and interactive digital artwork. The title comes from a song on Anderson's then-recent album, 1994's '' Bright Red''. The song is among numerous Anderson compositions performed on the soundtrack, which features the first release of the song "Down in Soho". Anderson appears in digitized video form, both as herself and (using a vocal modulator to lower the pitch), as the voice of a ventriloquist's dummy. Each week, the series featured experimental short films by a mixture of up-and-coming and established directors.
