The Hollow Men
"The Hollow Men" (1925) is a poem by the modernist writer T. S. Eliot. Like much of his work, its themes are overlapping and fragmentary, concerned with post–World War I Europe under the Treaty of Versailles (which Eliot despised: compare "Gerontion"), hopelessness, religious conversion, redemption and, some critics argue, his failing marriage with Vivienne Haigh-Wood Eliot.See, for instance, the work of one of Eliot's editors and major critics, Ronald Schuchard. It was published two years before Eliot converted to Anglicanism. Divided into five parts, the poem is 98 lines long. Eliot's ''New York Times'' obituary in 1965 identified the final four as "probably the most quoted lines of any 20th-century poet writing in English". The Hollow Men were a United Kingdom, British indie band from Leeds, England. The group named itself after the poem by T. S. Eliot. The members were David Ashmoore on vocals, Choque on guitar, Howard Taylor on bass, Brian E Roberts on guitar and Jonny Cragg on drums. Between 1985 and 1994 The Hollow Men released four albums and several single (music), singles. Starting out as a two piece for the first single "Late Flowering Lust" (featuring session bassist John Dean) David Ashmoore (David Owen) and Choque (who was previously in Leeds band Salvation) were joined by permanent bassist Howard Taylor for debut album ''Tales Of The Riverbank'' released on their own Evensong record label. The trio recorded another album ''The Man Who Would Be King'' again on Evensong before drummer Jonny Cragg, who had guested on the album and guitarist Brian E. The book has been adapted into a stage play, and filmed as a documentary. Background ''The Hollow Men'' is based on a wide range of internal party documents, including emails, which Hager stated were leaked to him by six National Party insiders. The documents and emails were written by then party leader Don Brash, and a wide range of people associated with him. The book was initially prevented from being published when Brash obtained an injunction preventing anyone from publishing material from emails that he had written. At the time he was unaware that Hager had completed the book and was about to launch it. Brash claims that the emails were stolen. The Hollow Men are an English sketch comedy group consisting of David Armand, Nick Tanner, Rupert Russell, and Sam Spedding. ''The Hollow Men'' is also the title of their TV show broadcast in the United States by Comedy Central. The show follows the kind of silliness from sketch comedy shows like ''Monty Python's Flying Circus'' and ''The Kids in the Hall''. The six-episode series aired in early 2005. In 2006 they broadcast a BBC Radio 4 sketch show, also of the same name. The radio show was recommissioned and a second series was aired in September 2007, along with a special broadcast from the Edinburgh Festival. Both series also featured Katy Brand. "The Hollow Men" is the 12th episode of the second season of the American science fiction television series ''Dollhouse'' and the show's 25th episode overall. The episode was written by Michele Fazekas, Tara Butters, and Tracy Bellomo, and directed by Terrence O'Hara. It aired in the United States on Fox on January 15, 2010. ''The Hollowmen'' is an Australian television comedy series set in the offices of the Central Policy Unit, a fictional political advisory unit personally set up by the Prime Minister to help him get re-elected. Their brief is long-term vision; to stop worrying about tomorrow's headlines, and focus on next week's. ''The Hollowmen'' was first broadcast on Wednesday, 9 July 2008, on ABC1. Each series comprises six half-hour episodes. On the eve of the first episode's national premiere, the series was approved by the ABC for a second series. The second series was screened right after the first, beginning on 13 September 2008. The comedy-drama satire is produced by Working Dog Productions, which was also responsible for ''Frontline'', '' The Panel'', '' Thank God You're Here'' and ''Utopia''.
