Hold On (Yes Song)
"Hold On" is a song by the progressive rock band Yes (band), Yes, from their 1983 album, ''90125''. It reached number 43 on the U.S. Mainstream Rock chart in 1984. Later, the live version from ''9012Live: The Solos'' reached number 27 in 1985. History The core of "Hold On" was written by Yes guitarist Trevor Rabin, prior to his joining the band, as two separate songs: "Hold On" and "Moving In". Once Rabin joined the band, the two songs were combined, with band members Chris Squire and Jon Anderson contributing additional music and lyrics. All three are credited as writers. Unlike the other songs on ''90125'', which are credited as "Produced by Trevor Horn" exclusively, Yes shares a production credit with Horn for "Hold On". "Hold On" has also appeared on several of Yes' later compilations, including the ''Yesyears'' and ''In a Word: Yes (1969–)'' box sets. Yes are an English progressive rock band formed in London in 1968 by lead singer and frontman Jon Anderson, bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Peter Banks, keyboardist Tony Kaye and drummer Bill Bruford. The band has undergone numerous line-up changes throughout their history, during which 19 musicians have been full-time members. Since May 2022, the band has consisted of guitarist Steve Howe, keyboardist Geoff Downes, singer Jon Davison, and bassist Billy Sherwood, as well as touring drummer Jay Schellen. ''90124'' is a compilation album by South African musician Trevor Rabin, released in 2003 on Voiceprint Records. It contains previously unreleased demos and songs that he wrote as a solo artist, some of which were recorded by Yes when he joined the band in 1983. The album's title and artwork is a direct reference to ''90125'' (1983), the first Yes album to feature Rabin that was produced mainly from his demos included on ''90124''. "Walls" features Supertramp singer Roger Hodgson on vocals, recorded when he was invited to sing with Yes, though Jon Anderson's return ended this idea. Nonetheless, Rabin and Hodgson became close friends and Rabin played guitar, keyboards and backing vocals on Hodgson's song "The More I Look", featured on '' Open the Door''. ''Greatest Video Hits'' is a 1992 compilation of promotional videos from progressive rock group Yes. It contains the majority of MTV videos filmed by the band, as well as a few early promotional videos that pre-date MTV. It contains videos from 1977's ''Going for the One'' through 1987's ''Big Generator''. In between videos, band members are interviewed backstage in the Pensacola Civic Center before a concert on the 1991 ''Union'' tour. These were from the same interview sessions that were used in the ''Yesyears'' video. The video was released on VHS in 1992 and re-released on DVD in 2005. ''The Word is Live'' is a box set by the English progressive rock band Yes, released in August 2005 by Rhino Records. A triple album, the set is compiled of live recordings from radio broadcasts and concert tours between 1970 and 1988, mostly from guitarist Steve Howe's tape collection. Background Many of the tracks were originally broadcast on radio shows and have been bootlegged extensively. In these, it is often the case that the radio show's final mix was the only mix available so few improvements in quality could be done for the release. While a few of the recordings (mostly those from the 1980 tour) do feature a less-than-polished quality to them, ''The Word is Live'' is still considered a fine document of Yes in a concert setting. ''Yesyears'' is the first box set by English progressive rock band Yes, released in August 1991 on Atco Records. After the group left Atco for Arista Records when they became an eight-man formation in 1990, the deal gave Atco the right to the band's back catalogue, thus allowing them to release a career-spanning box set. ''Yesyears'' contains studio and live tracks from 1969 to 1991 with previously unreleased mixes and songs, digitally remastered by Joe Gastwirt. One of the major attractions of ''Yesyears'' was its inclusion of rare material, including many previously unreleased songs, and a full-colour booklet detailing Yes's history. ''90125'' is the eleventh studio album by the English progressive rock band Yes, released on 11 November 1983 by Atco Records. After Yes disbanded in 1981, following the ''Drama'' (1980) tour, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White formed Cinema with guitarist and singer-songwriter Trevor Rabin and original Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye, who was fired in 1971, and began recording an album. They adopted a more commercial and pop-oriented musical direction as the result of their new material, much of which derived from Rabin's demos, with former Yes singer Trevor Horn as their producer.
