Friedrich Albin Hoffmann
Friedrich Albin Hoffmann (13 November 1843, Ruhrort – 13 November 1924, Leipzig) was a German internist. He studied medicine in Würzburg, Tübingen and Berlin, and after graduation (1868), he became an assistant to Friedrich Theodor von Frerichs (1819-1885) in the First Medical Clinic at the University of Berlin. In 1872 he became habilitated for special pathology and therapy (internal medicine), and from 1874 was a professor of internal medicine at the University of Dorpat. From 1886 to 1920 he served as a professor of internal medicine and director of the university polyclinic in University of Leipzig, Leipzig. He was considered an excellent diagnostician, dedicated to histology, histological research in the field of internal medicine. His primary focus dealt with diseases of the bronchi and mediastinum as well as blood diseases, blood and metabolic disorders. August Heinrich Hoffmann Von Fallersleben
August Heinrich Hoffmann (, calling himself von Fallersleben, after his hometown; 2 April 179819 January 1874) was a German poet. He is best known for writing "Das Lied der Deutschen", whose third stanza is now the national anthem of Germany, and a number of popular children's songs, considered part of the Young Germany movement. Biography Hoffmann was born in Fallersleben in Lower Saxony, then in the duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. The son of a merchant and mayor of his native city, he was educated at the classical schools of Helmstedt and Braunschweig, and afterwards at the universities of Göttingen and Bonn. His original intention was to study theology, but he soon devoted himself entirely to literature. Felix Hoffmann
Felix Hoffmann (21 January 1868 – 8 February 1946) was a German chemist notable for re-synthesising diamorphine (independently from C.R. Alder Wright who synthesized it 23 years earlier), which was popularized under the Bayer trade name of "heroin". He is also credited with synthesizing aspirin, though whether he did this under his own initiative or under the instruction of Arthur Eichengrün is contested. Hanna Gabrielle Hoffmann (1858–1917) was a Norwegian-born Danish sculptor, silversmith and weaver. In 1892, Hoffmann became the first woman in Denmark to graduate as a sculptor after attending the women's department (Kunstakademiets Kunstskole for Kvinder) of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. After an extended stay in Paris where she worked as a silversmith, she returned to Denmark in 1905 and practised weaving under Kristiane Konstantin-Hansen and Johanne Bindesbøll. Gerhard Hoffmann (6 November 1919 – 11 April 1945) was a German Luftwaffe military aviation, military aviator during World War II, a fighter ace credited with 130 aerial victories—that is, 130 aerial combat encounters resulting in the destruction of the enemy aircraft—claimed in an unknown number of combat missions. Born in Ruciane-Nida, Nieden, Hoffmann was trained as a fighter pilot and was posted to Jagdgeschwader 52, ''Jagdgeschwader'' 52 (JG 52—52nd Fighter Wing) in 1942. Fighting on the Eastern Front (World War II), Eastern Front, he claimed his first aerial victory on 26 October 1942 and his 100th aerial victory on March/April 1944. Early life Hoffmann was born in Basel, Switzerland (french: link=no, Bâle) on the 24 October 1868 as the third child of Friedrich Hoffmann and Anna Elisabeth Merian. His godfathers were the parental grandfather Johan Heinrich Merian von der Mühll, his uncle, the Mayor of Basel Carl Felix Burckhardt von der Mühll and Anna Von der Mühll. Friedrich Hoffmann or Hofmann (19 February 1660 – 12 November 1742) was a German physician and chemist. He is also sometimes known in English as Frederick Hoffmann. Life His family had been connected with medicine for 200 years before him. Born in Halle, he attended the local gymnasium where he acquired that taste for and skill in mathematics to which he attributed much of his later success. Beginning at age 18, he studied medicine at the University of Jena. From there, in 1680, he went to Erfurt, to attend Kasper Cramer's lectures on chemistry. Next year, returning to Jena, he received his doctor's diploma, and, after publishing a thesis, was permitted to teach.
