Hobie Call
Holbrook "Hobie" Call (born 1977) is an American former competitve runner and elite obstacle course racer. Call is a multiple-time winner of the Spartan Race, an obstacle race with challenges similar to those found in the television program '' American Gladiators''.Reed Albergott"Grueling Race Puts Up Obstacles, Especially for One Man,"Wall Street Journal, June 25, 2011 A native of Utah, he is the father of five children. Call won the Scramble Gamble at the Superhero Scramble race in Miami, FL on March 12, 2012. He finished first with a time of 33:29 and won a cash purse of $2,000. Hobie also ran in and won the Scramble Gamble race in Waldo, FL on July 28, 2012, with a finishing time of 27:05. Since, Hobie has won many Superhero Scrambles. Call took the first win of the Spartan Race season in Southern California. He finished the 8 mile course in under an hour. Obstacle Racing
Obstacle course racing (OCR) is a sport in which a competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges in the form of obstacles. Races vary in length from courses with obstacles close together to events of several kilometers which incorporate elements of track, road and/or cross country/trail running. Courses may include climbing over walls or up ropes, monkey bars, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water or mud, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire. Spartan Race
Spartan Race is a series of obstacle races of varying distance and difficulty ranging from 3 miles to marathon distances. These races are held in the United States and have been franchised to 30 countries, including Canada, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines and several European countries. The series include the Spartan Sprint, the Spartan Super, the Spartan Beast, and the Spartan Ultra. Spartan Race also has a military series, hosted on military bases. Spartan also holds winter and team events. History Spartan Race began as a spin-off of the "Death Race", a 48-hour endurance event founded in 2007. American Gladiators (1989 TV Series)
''American Gladiators'' is an American competition television program that aired weekly in syndication from September 1989 to May 1996. The series matched a cast of amateur athletes against each other, as well as against the show's own "gladiators", in contests of strength and agility. The concept was originally created in 1982 by Johnny C. Ferraro and Dan Carr. Carr gathered the Gladiators and hosted the show, and Ferraro financed and produced the original competition at Erie Tech High School in Erie, Pennsylvania so Ferraro could have the event on film as to shop the new creation. In 1983 Ferraro financed, developed and packaged the American Gladiators as a movie project. In 1984 Carr sold his interest in a literary purchase to Flor-Jon Films. Tough Mudder is an endurance event series in which participants attempt obstacle courses. It was co-founded by Will Dean and Guy Livingstone. The obstacles often play on common human fears, such as fire, water, electricity and heights. The first Tough Mudder challenge was held in the United States in 2010. As of 2016, more than three million people worldwide have participated in Tough Mudder events. Warrior Dash was a 5 km mud run put on by Red Frog Events, an event company based in Chicago, Illinois. As of July 31, 2019, Red Frog events is no longer a company and has cancelled all Warrior Dash races and ceased operations. History 2009 The inaugural Warrior Dash took place on July 18, 2009, in Joliet, Illinois, at CPX Sports with 2,000 participants. 2011 The 2011 Warrior Dash season hosted 33 races throughout the U.S. and internationally in Canada and Australia.
