Hits (compilation Series)
''Hits'' - also commonly known as ''The Hits Album'' - is a long-running compilation album series containing contemporary chart music. It originally ran in the United Kingdom and parts of Europe for over twenty years from 1984 until 2006. It was compiled as a joint venture, variously between the compilation arms of the Sony Music, RCA/Bertelsmann Music Group, BMG, and Warner Music groups to rival the ''Now That's What I Call Music'' series that had launched a year earlier in 1983, compiled by rival companies EMI and Virgin Records, Virgin. Initially, the ''Hits'' brand was arguably as popular as its main rival and all of the first eight volumes achieved at least a platinum BPI award, with several of the very early albums going multi-platinum. During 1989, five years into the ''Hits'' series' run, a drop in sales resulted in several re-brands meaning that for a period of time, the series lost momentum with the release pattern and the numbering of each volume. The series was bri ...

LP Album
The LP (from "long playing" or "long play") is an analog sound storage medium, a phonograph record format characterized by: a speed of  rpm; a 12- or 10-inch (30- or 25-cm) diameter; use of the "microgroove" groove specification; and a vinyl (a copolymer of vinyl chloride acetate) composition disk. Introduced by Columbia in 1948, it was soon adopted as a new standard by the entire record industry. Apart from a few relatively minor refinements and the important later addition of stereophonic sound, it remained the standard format for record albums (during a period in popular music known as the album era) until its gradual replacement from the 1980s to the early 2000s, first by cassettes, then by compact discs, and finally by digital music distribution. Beginning in the late 2000s, the LP has experienced a resurgence in popularity. Format advantages At the time the LP was introduced, nearly all phonograph records for home use were made of an abrasive shellac compound ...

Monster Hits
''Monster Hits'' or ''Hits 11'' is the eleventh release of the ''Hits'' compilation Series. It was released on 20 November 1989 in the United Kingdom and it debuted at number two on the UK Compilation Chart (kept off by its rival '' Now 16''). The album was issued on vinyl, double cassette and double compact disc and featured 32 tracks. The ''Hits'' compilation series began in 1984 and had become a successful brand for its compilers, the partnership comprising CBS, WEA and BMG with healthy sales rivalling that even of the hugely successful ''Now'' series. However, it is with this release (and, to a lesser extent, '' The Hits Album'' in 1988) that the compilers began altering the format of the '' Hits'' series and there would be several more rebrands in the years to come. ''Monster Hits'' includes three songs which reached number one on the UK Singles Chart: "Ride On Time", " All Around The World" and " That's What I Like". An accompanying video release from BMG Video, ''Monster ...

The Hits Album 10
''The Hits Album 10'' or ''Hits 10'' is the tenth release of the ''Hits'' compilation series, compiled by BMG, CBS and WEA. It was released in the UK on 22 May 1989. With this release, the compilers returned to the tradition of a volume issue number and the revival of artwork used from ''Hits 6'' to ''Hits 8'', with the issue number forming a central graphic against a black background. It was a successful album and reached number one on the UK Compilation Album chart for six consecutive weeks and achieved a Platinum sales award. This would be the last release in the ''Hits'' series, for the time being, to follow the chronological volume number which had been in place from its launch in 1984. From now on, there would be several rebrands and relaunches of the ''Hits'' series, including the return to sequential numbering, picking it back up at ''Hits 50'' twelve years later, around the same time as '' Now 50'' in 2001. ''Hits 10'' features one song which reached number one on the ...
