''His Excellency'' is a 1958 Australian television film. It was based on a play which had been previously adapted into a 1952 film, ''His Excellency''. The play was performed in Australia in 1953. Plot An ex-docker is appointed governor of a British island colony. It was directed by Alan Burke who had just done ''Rose without a Thorn'' for the ABC and directed ''Look Back in Anger'' on stage for the Elizabethan Theatre Trust. Campbell Christie (1893–1963) was an Indian-born British playwright and screenwriter who frequently collaborated with his wife Dorothy Christie on plays such as '' Carrington V.C.'', ''His Excellency'' and '' Someone at the Door''. Philip Albright
Philip Albright (died 21 July 1959), was an American actor and writer who worked for a number of years in Australia. He came to Australia in 1949 to appear in ''Dream Girl'' on stage and decided to stay, becoming a writer at the ABC, on radio and TV. He was one of the key radio writers for Ron Roberts Productions. He wrote some of the first TV dramas in Australia. He died in 1959 and his play ''The Break'' was produced after his death. Alan Burke
Alan S. Burke (September 15, 1922 – August 25, 1992) was an American conservative television and radio talk show host who was on the air primarily in New York City from 1966 to 1969 on WNEW-TV. Life He was born in Richmond, Virginia, in 1922. He graduated from the University of Richmond. He became a sportscaster at a radio station in Petersburg, Virginia. He married Claire Canniff and they had two sons, David Jonathan Burke and Morris Daniel Burke. His television show was on the local New York City channel 5 at station WNEW from 1966 to 1969 as ''The Alan Burke Show'' and was syndicated nationally. After his show was cancelled he moved to Boca Raton, Florida, where he continued to work in broadcasting. He died on August 25, 1992, in Boca Raton, Florida. ''His Excellency'' is a 1952 British comedy drama film directed by Robert Hamer and starring Eric Portman, Cecil Parker, Helen Cherry and Susan Stephen. It follows a blunt Yorkshireman and former trade union leader, who is sent to take over as Governor of a British-ruled island in the Mediterranean. It was based on the 1950 play of the same name by Dorothy Christie and Campbell Christie. The play was also filmed for Australian television in 1958. The film was produced at Ealing Studios under the general oversight of Michael Balcon. The sets were designed by the art director Jim Morahan. Location shooting took place in Sicily around Palermo. The film was scored by Ernest Irving who incorporated a number of themes by Handel. Harvey Adams (1889, Warrington, England – 1960, Australia) was an English actor and director who worked extensively in film, stage and radio. He moved to Australia in 1924 for work after a long career, played leading man for Muriel Starr from 1925 to 1930, in later years also serving as producer for many of her shows, and for other companies after she left in 1930, earning a reputation for meticulous attention to detail. Owen Ash Weingott (21 June 1921 – 12 October 2002) was an Australian actor, director and drama teacher. Although primarily working in theatre, he appeared on radio and television in serials and made for television films and voice overs. Weingott was vice-president of the Australian actors union, the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance.
