Hipódromo Argentino De Palermo
The Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo is a horse racing course located in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and one of the most important in the country, hosting 120 days of racing and 1,400 races every year. Races are hosted three days a week, with about nine races per racing day. The property is open to the public free of charge twenty-four hours a day. Its dirt course is considered one of the best in the world, and the track is one of the most modern in South America. The Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo also hosts music concerts, attracting twenty to twenty-five thousand attendants, and culinary fairs, attracting ten to twenty thousand attendants. Musicians that have played include Alejandro Sanz, Fito Paez, Lisandro Aristimuño, Divididos, David Bisbal, Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Måneskin and TINI. The Gran Premio Polla de Potrillos is a Group 1 flat horse race in Argentina open to three-year-old colts run over a distance of at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo. It is the first race in the Argentinian Triple Crown, and equivalent to the English 2000 Guineas Stakes. The Gran Premio Nacional, or Argentine Derby, is a Group 1 flat horse race in Argentina open to three-year-olds run over a distance of at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo. It is the third race in the Argentinian Triple Crown and is one of the oldest and most influential races in Latin American racing. History The Gran Premio Nacional has been run at Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo annually since 1884. By 1923, the year the Uruguayan entry Sisley won, the purse was worth $40,000. In 1933, the favorite Hasta Hoy was attacked by masked men the night before the race. His attendant was held at gunpoint while Hasta Hoy's abdomen was stabbed.
