Hilton Leech House And Amagansett Art School
The Hilton Leech House and Amagansett Art School is a historic school in Sarasota, Florida. Named for artist Hilton Leech (Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1906 - Died in Virginia City, Montana 1969), it is located at 1666 Hillview Street. On June 22, 1995, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Leech taught painting at the Ringling School of Art from 1931 until 1936 and again from 1939 until 1945. After World War II he opened his own school the Amagansett Art School at 1666 Hillview Street in Sarasota. Leech painted watercolor murals at the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building and United States Courthouse, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The mural is titled ''Allegory of Chattanooga'' (1937). Sarasota () is a city in Sarasota County on the Gulf Coast of the U.S. state of Florida. The area is renowned for its cultural and environmental amenities, beaches, resorts, and the Sarasota School of Architecture. Spivey as an art school in 1931 as a remote branch of Florida Southern College, Southern College but separated by 1933. History The origins of the college go back to when the President of Southern College (which is now called Florida Southern College) Dr. Ludd M. Spivey wanted to get the support of John Ringling for his college. Bay Minette is a city in and the county seat of Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population of the city was 8,044. History In the first days of Baldwin County, the town of McIntosh Bluff (now in Mobile County, west of Baldwin County) on the Tombigbee River was the county seat. After being transferred to the town of Blakeley in 1810, the county seat was later moved to the city of Daphne in 1868. In 1900, by an act of the legislature of Alabama, the county seat was authorized for relocation to the city of Bay Minette; however, the city of Daphne resisted relocation. The citizens of Bay Minette moved the county records from Daphne in the middle of the night on October 11–12, 1901 and delivered them to the city of Bay Minette - where the Baldwin County seat remains to this day.
