Hilger is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Fergus County, Montana, Fergus County, Montana, United States. The community is located along U.S. Route 191#Montana, U.S. Highway 191 in central Fergus County. Hilger has a post office with the ZIP code 59451. It is 15 miles north of Lewistown, Montana, Lewistown. History A post office has been in operation in Hilger since 1911. The community was named for settler and historian David J. Hilger. Ernst Hilger (28 February 1950 – 26 May 2025) was a curator as well as the owner and founder of Hilger modern/contemporary and Hilger BrotKunsthalle. A gallery owner and a philanthropist mediator, Hilger travelled the world in search of new art while also providing a platform for established artists. He championed the less well-known contemporary art of countries like Iran and places such as Latin America and Africa. Hilger made decisions on exhibiting based on his extensive knowledge of the international art market and also his on-site research in the art hotspots in the cities he visited. Sister Marie Inez Hilger (October 16, 1891 - May 18, 1977) was an American Benedictine nun and anthropologist who was the first woman admitted to the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Biography Sister Marie Inez Hilger was born in Roscoe, Minnesota, October 16, 1891. According to her obituary from the College of Saint Benedict & Saint John's University, Sister Inez was the second oldest child of at least eight siblings: six sisters and two brothers born to Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Hilger. Mary Irma Hilger
Sister Mary Irma Hilger (July 12, 1917 – February 22, 2003) was an American Catholic nun, who trained as a nurse and founded the St. Jude Hospital and nurse's training school on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. She has been called the "Florence Nightingale of St. Lucia". Early life Mary Irma Hilger was born on July 12, 1917, in Ost, Reno County, Kansas to Katherine May and Peter M. Hilger. She joined the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in 1935 and went on to obtain a bachelor's degree and master's degree in nursing from Saint Louis University, in St. Louis, Missouri. Career In 1955, Hilger became the supervisor of obstetrics at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. In 1961, she was posted to St. Lucia in the West Indies, along with four other sisters. Russell Todd Hilger (May 9, 1962 – December 24, 2019) was an American professional football player who was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and was selected in the sixth round of the 1985 NFL draft. Hilger played for the Los Angeles Raiders, Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks for eight seasons.
