''Hideaway'' is a 1937 American comedy film directed by Richard Rosson. Based on the 1937 play ''A House in the Country'' by Melvin Levy, the screenplay was written by J. Robert Bren and Edmund L. Hartmann. Produced and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures, it opened on August 13, 1937. The film stars Fred Stone, Emma Dunn, Marjorie Lord and J. Carroll Naish. Richard Rosson (filmmaker)
Richard Rosson (April 4, 1893 – May 31, 1953) was an American film director and actor. As an actor, he was known for the nearly 100 films he was in during the silent era. As a director, he directed the logging sequences in the 1936 film '' Come and Get It''. Career Rosson's first directorial effort was the 1926 American black and white silent comedy film '' Fine Manners'', initially directed by Lewis Milestone for Famous Players-Lasky/Paramount Pictures. After an argument with actress Gloria Swanson, Milestone walked off the set, leaving the film to be completed by Rosson, who had picked up directorial tricks while working as an assistant director to Allan Dwan. The success of the film, being Rosson's first directorial effort since he co-directed ''Her Father's Keeper'' in 1917 with his brother Arthur Rosson, won him a long-term contract with Famous Players-Lasky. Paul Guilfoyle (actor, Born 1902)
Paul Guilfoyle (July 14, 1902 – June 27, 1961) was an American stage, film and television actor. Later in his career, he also directed films and television episodes. Guilfoyle was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He started off working on stage, performing on Broadway in 16 plays according to the Internet Broadway Database, beginning with ''The Jolly Roger'' and ''Cyrano de Bergerac'' in 1923 and ending with ''Jayhawker'' in 1934. He appeared in many films that starred Lee Tracy in the 1930s. In the 1949 crime film ''White Heat'', he played (uncredited) a treacherous prison inmate murdered in cold blood by James Cagney's lead character. He died of a heart attack on June 27, 1961 in Hollywood. He had a son, Anthony. RKO Radio Pictures Inc., commonly known as RKO Pictures or simply RKO, was an American film production and distribution company, one of the "Big Five" film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The business was formed after the Keith-Albee-Orpheum (KAO) theater chain and Joseph P. Kennedy's Film Booking Offices of America (FBO) studio were brought together under the control of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) in October 1928. RCA chief David Sarnoff engineered the merger to create a market for the company's sound-on-film technology, RCA Photophone, and in early 1929 production began under the RKO name (an abbreviation of Radio-Keith-Orpheum). Robert McKenzie (September 22, 1880 – July 8, 1949) was an Irish-born American film actor. He appeared in more than 310 films between 1915 and 1946. McKenzie was married to the actress Eva McKenzie until his death from a heart attack in 1949. The two appeared as husband and wife in The Three Stooges' film ''The Yoke's on Me''. He was born in New York City and died in Los Angeles, California, from lung cancer. Hoffman's Broadway credits include ''The Strange Woman'' (1913), ''The Spring Maid'' (1910), and ''A Broken Idol'' (1909). He was also active in stock theater productions. Alexander Younger Craig (30 March 1884 – 25 June 1945) was a Scottish-born American character actor, particularly known for his roles in ''Mutiny on the Bounty'' (1935) and ''National Velvet'' (1944). He was particularly known for portraying stereotypically tight-fisted Scotsmen. Early life Alec Craig was born on 30 March 1884 in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland, the son of James Chapman Craig and his wife Isabella. Personal life He married his wife Margaret L. (born 8 July 1888 in Dunfermline) in Edinburgh on 24 September 1919. They arrived in the United States on 2 November 1919. They had a son James C Craig (born 4 December 1922, Berkeley, California). He became a naturalized American citizen on 14 July 1939. Death Craig died of tuberculosis on 25 June 1945, aged 61, in Glendale, California.
