Herscher is a village in Kankakee County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Kankakee–Bradley metropolitan area. Geography Herscher is located in southwestern Kankakee County at (41.050716, -88.095404). Illinois Route 115 forms the northern edge of the village; the highway leads east to Kankakee, the county seat, and southwest to Piper City. According to the 2010 census, Herscher has a total area of , all land. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 1,523 people, 533 households, and 430 families residing in the village. Herscher High School is a public coeducational high school in Herscher, Illinois, United States. The school's mascot is the Tiger and the school colors are gold and black. History Herscher High School's first graduating class in 1904 numbered seven students. Athletics Herscher is a member of the Illinois Central Eight Conference and participates in state tournaments sponsored by the Illinois High School Association. The school sponsors interscholastic sports teams for both men and women in basketball, bowling, cross country, soccer, and track and field. The school sponsors baseball, football, and wrestling for men, while sponsoring cheerleading, softball, and volleyball for women.
