Maycie Herrington
Maycie Herrington (November 7, 1918 – May 24, 2016) was an African-American history conservator, social worker, and community volunteer known for her work to preserve the history of the Tuskegee Airmen. She was involved with the Tuskegee Airmen from World War II, when she worked for the Red Cross while her husband Aaron trained to become a fighter pilot. John Bennett Herrington (born September 14, 1958, in Chickasaw Nation) is a retired United States Naval Aviator, engineer and former NASA astronaut. In 2002, Herrington became the first enrolled member of a Native American tribe to fly in space. Early life Herrington was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma, into the Chickasaw Nation. Arthur William Sidney Herrington (March 30, 1891 – September 6, 1970) was an American engineer and manufacturer. He designed the Jeep, military trucks, trolleys, and buses. Early life Born in Coddenham, England, Herrington migrated to the US with his family at the age of five, settling in Madison, New Jersey. He attended Stevens Institute of Technology and took his first job with Harley Davidson. Military service During World War I, Herrington was a lieutenant in the American Expeditionary Forces, serving as a motorcycle dispatch rider in Europe. James Herrington (June 6, 1824 – July 7, 1890) was an American politician from Pennsylvania. Coming with his family to Illinois at a young age, he joined a Chicago printing house to support his family. He apprenticed under Long John Wentworth and became a prominent Democrat upon his return to Geneva. He served seven consecutive terms in the Illinois House of Representatives and was once a candidate for the United States House of Representatives.
