The title Hero of Turkmenistan () is a state award of Turkmenistan. It was first awarded in 1992 and was awarded for service to the implementation of domestic and foreign policy. History The title of Hero of Turkmenistan was established by the Law of Turkmenistan "On establishing the highest degree of distinction - the title of Hero of Turkmenistan" adopted by the Mejlis of Turkmenistan on 30 September 1992. The law of Turkmenistan dated 27 December 1995 No. 101-1 approved the new edition of the "Regulation on the title of Hero of Turkmenistan". The next version of the regulation was approved by the Law of Turkmenistan of 28 February 2015. Hero of the Russian Federation (russian: Герой Российской Федерации, Geroy Rossiyskoy Federatsii), also unofficially Hero of Russia (russian: link=no, Герой России, Geroy Rossii), is the highest honorary title of the Russian Federation. Oleg Dmitriyevich Kononenko (russian: Олег Дмитриевич Кононенко; ; born 21 June 1964 in Turkmenistan) is a Russian cosmonaut from the Turkmen SSR. He has flown to the International Space Station four times, as a flight engineer for Expedition 17 aboard Soyuz TMA-12, as a flight engineer on Expedition 30 and commander of Expedition 31 aboard Soyuz TMA-03M, as a flight engineer on Expedition 44 and Expedition 45 aboard Soyuz TMA-17M, and as commander of Expedition 58 and Expedition 59 aboard Soyuz MS-11. Aksoltan Töräýewna Ataýewa (born 6 November 1944) is a Turkmen politician who has served as the permanent representative of Turkmenistan to the United Nations since 23 February 1995. As of 2019, she is the most senior permanent representative from any nation currently serving, having held office for over 25 years. In 2019, she was named a Hero of Turkmenistan. Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow (born 29 June 1957), also known as Arkadag (Cyrillic: Аркадаг, "protector"), is a Turkmen politician who served as the second president of Turkmenistan from 2006 to 2022. A dentist by profession, Berdimuhamedow served in the government of president Saparmurat Niyazov as the minister of health in 1997 and as the vice president in 2001. Gurbansoltan Eje
Gurbansoltan Eje ("Mother of Gurbansoltan"; born 1913 in Gypjak, Turkmenistan; died 6 October 1948 in Ashgabat during the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake) was the mother of Turkmenistan's first post-Soviet president Saparmurat Niyazov ("Türkmenbaşy"). Several places and institutions were named after her, including the city of Andalyp, as was the month of April in the Turkmen calendar, renamed in 2002 after the Turkmen government passed a law renaming all months and most days of week, a decision which was rescinded by his successor, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, in April 2008.
