Description The medal is an eight-pointed star made of gilded metal, with rays radiating from the center. On the surface of the star there is a convex stylized image of the solar sign. In the center of the star is a precious stone. The gemstone provided for in the description was never used. The distance between the opposite ends of the eight-pointed star is 35 mm. The designer of the medal was Valery Gamgia. Gudauta
Gudauta ( ka, გუდაუთა, ; ab, Гәдоуҭа, ''Gwdowtha''; russian: Гудаута, ''Gudauta'') is a town in Abkhazia, Georgia, and a centre of the eponymous district. It is situated on the Black Sea, 37 km northwest of Sukhumi, the capital of Abkhazia. It is the namesake for the Gudauta Bay. Overview Gudauta used to be home to a Soviet Air Defence Forces base, Bombora airfield, where the 171st Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment flew Su-15TMs until 1982. Hero City (, Łacinka: ''horad-hieroj''; ; ) is a Soviet honorary title awarded for outstanding heroism during World War II (the Eastern Front is known in most countries of the former Soviet Union as the Great Patriotic War). It was awarded to twelve cities of the Soviet Union, today in Belarus (1 city and 1 fortress), Russia (6 cities), and Ukraine (4 cities). In addition, the Brest Fortress, today in Belarus, was awarded an equivalent title of Hero Fortress. Sultan Aslambekovich Sosnaliyev (russian: Султан Асламбекович Сосналиев; 23 April 1942 – 23 November 2008) was a Soviet Army officer of Circassian ethnicity who served as a commander of Abkhaz and North Caucasian forces during the War in Abkhazia and as the defence minister of Abkhazia in 1993–1996 and 2005–2007. Early life Sultan Sosnaliyev was born in Baksan in Kabardino-Balkaria, Russia, to Kabardin parents. He graduated from the Syzran Higher Military Aviation School and from the Zhukov Air and Space Defense Academy and served in the Soviet anti-aircraft forces for 29 years. Sergei Matosyan
Sergei Matosyan is an Armenian-Abkhazian colonel and opposition politician. He became the Deputy Speaker of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia in 2010, and is a former Minister. Career Matosyan participated in the 1992–1993 war with Georgia, holding the rank of colonel and heading three battalions. In 1994, Matosyan headed the Bagramyan Battalion during the Lata operation in the Kodori Valley. He was the only Armenian of the war to command Abkhaz troops. For his achievements, Matosyan was awarded the title Hero of Abkhazia. After the war, Matosyan became head of the republican border guard.
