''Hero'', also released as ''Hero: Inspired by the Extraordinary Life and Times of Mr. Ulric Cross'', is a Trinidad and Tobago biographical film based on the life of the Trinidadian RAF officer, lawyer and diplomat Ulric Cross (1917–2013). It was produced and directed by Frances-Anne Solomon and won an award in the 2019 Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Diaspora Narrative Feature Film category. Synopsis In 1941 Ulric Cross, a young man from Trinidad, leaves his island home to seek his fortune. He emerges from World War II as the RAF's most decorated West Indian. Frances-Anne Solomon (born 28 June 1966) is an English-Caribbean-Canadian filmmaker, writer, producer, and distributor. She has lived in Britain, Barbados and Toronto, Canada. Biography Born in England of Trinidadian parents, who had gone to Britain in 1958, Frances-Anne Solomon began her professional life at the BBC in England, where she built a successful career as a producer, first with BBC Radio then with BBC television drama. She also produced and directed independent films through her company Leda Serene Films.
