Hermit Park Tigers Australian Football Club
AFL Townsville is an amateur competition formed as the Townsville Australian Football League in 1955, the first contemporary AFL competition to be formed outside of the South East Queensland. It is based in the city of Townsville. For a short period in the 1980s, the competition was played during the summer months. The representative team is known as the Eagles and they wear similar guernseys to the Zillmere Eagles' old white and blue guernseys. History A Townsville representative team travelled to Cairns in 1884 to play one of the earliest recorded matches in Far North Queensland. It is not known how long the Townsville team began playing prior to this. Australian Football is recorded to have been played regularly in Townsville in 1886. Australian Rules Football
Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. There are rules on how the ball can be handled; for example, players running with the ball must intermittently bounce or touch it on the ground. Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club
Zillmere Eagles Australian Football Club (formerly Windsor-Zillmere, North Brisbane and Northern Eagles) is an Australian rules football club based in the suburb of Zillmere in the northern suburbs of Brisbane. The team plays in the QAFA Division 4. It reformed the senior side in 2013 and it was undefeated all year in the SEQAFL State Div 4 northern competition. Zillmere once competed in the AFL Queensland Australian Football League, where it ceased to play in 2008. The club also fields women's (in the AFL Queensland Women's League) and junior teams. History The original Zillmere FC had been established in 1923. The team won 13 QAFL championships until 1962, when the "Windsor-Zillmere FC" was formed from the merger of Zillmere and neighbouring Windsor Football Club. Queensland Football Association (1880-1890)
The Queensland Football Association (QFA) was the first governing body for football in the Colony of Queensland founded on 30 April 1880. Its role was primarily to facilitate club and representative matches primarily in Australian rules football but also in Rugby union. It was the first governing body for Australian rules football in Queensland (the code was first introduced to the colony in 1866 by the Brisbane Football Club).
