__NOTOC__ Hermann Fischer (19 February 1894 – 12 April 1968) was a German general in the Wehrmacht during World War II. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross of Nazi Germany. Fischer surrendered to the Red Army on 8 May 1945 in the Courland Pocket. Convicted as a war criminal in the Soviet Union, he was held until 1955. Hermann Emil Fischer
Hermann Emil Louis Fischer (; 9 October 1852 – 15 July 1919) was a German chemist and 1902 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. He discovered the Fischer esterification. He also developed the Fischer projection, a symbolic way of drawing asymmetric carbon atoms. He also hypothesized lock and key mechanism of enzyme action. He never used his first given name, and was known throughout his life simply as Emil Fischer. Early years and career Fischer was born in Euskirchen, near Cologne, the son of Laurenz Fischer, a businessman, and his wife Julie Poensgen. After graduating he wished to study natural sciences, but his father compelled him to work in the family business until determining that his son was unsuitable. Fischer then attended the University of Bonn in 1871, but switched to the University of Strasbourg in 1872. Hermann Fischer (18 January 1912 in Asch, Austria-Hungary (now Aš, Czech Republic) – 23 November 1984 in Merseburg, East Germany) was a German athlete and Communist resistance fighter against Nazism. Life His parents, a round knitter and his wife, moved from Asch to Apolda in 1914, where he attended the Volksschule. His early recognizable tendency to woodwork made him take on the profession of a carpenter. Already as a youth, he worked as a wrestler in the Apolda sports clubs "Blau-Gold" and "Olympia". During the period of the Great Depression, he joined the Rote Hilfe, the German branch of the International Red Aid. When the sports associations were banned in 1933, he secretly continued to train. In the same year, he was imprisoned for several weeks because of political resistance. From 1935 onward, he belonged to the regional resistance group Brümmer-Kleine. Hermann Willibald Fischer (6 February 1896 in Florence – 17 July 1922 in Saaleck Castle) was a German mechanical engineer. He was a member of an extreme right-wing terror group Organisation Consul (OC) and was one of the assassins of the German minister of foreign affairs, Walther Rathenau, on 24 June 1922. Life Fischer was the son of a painter and professor in Dresden. He was a volunteer in World War I and at the end of the war was a company commander with the rank of lieutenant. After the war he studied mechanical engineering in Chemnitz, successfully completing his studies in March 1922. Periodically he interrupted his studies to join various Freikorps, initially during the Chemnitz food riots in August 1919. As a member of the Marine-Brigade Ehrhardt he participated in the Kapp-Putsch and fought in early summer 1921 with the Upper Silesian Self-Protection Organisation.
