Herman Kasekende
Herman Kizito Kasekende is a Ugandan businessman, economist, and bank executive. He is the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanchart Zambia, effective February 2017. Prior to that, from 22 July 2012 until 20 February 2017, he was the managing director and chief executive officer of Stanchart Uganda, the second-largest commercial bank in the country by assets, which totaled nearly US$965 million in December 2012. Background and education Kasekende was born in the Buganda Region of Uganda circa 1965. He studied at St. Henry's College Kitovu for his O-Level and at St. Mary's College Kisubi for his A-Level education. His primary degree in economics was obtained from Makerere University. Nile Bank Ltd was a private bank registered in Uganda, with shareholders from Uganda, Israel, and South Africa. Nile Bank has an emphasis on consumer banking. History Nile Bank was established in 1988 for the purposes of providing banking services to the public at a time when low cost banking was almost non-existent in Uganda. By 1992 the bank had two branches and has since expanded to six branches including branches in Mbarara, Entebbe and Jinja. Before Uganda's independence in 1962, the main banks in Uganda were Barclays (UK based); Grindlays (also UK), Standard Bank (South Africa based) and the Bank of Baroda from India. The currency was issued by the East African Currency Board, a London-based body. In 1966, the Bank of Uganda (BoU), which controlled the issue of currency and managed foreign exchange reserves, became the central bank and national banking regulator. The government-owned Uganda Commercial Bank and the Uganda Development Bank were launched in the 1960s. James Mulwana (24 July 1936 – 15 January 2013), was a businessman, entrepreneur, and industrialist in Uganda. He was the Group chairman and chief executive officer of the Mulwana Group of Companies, a diverse business conglomerate with interests in dairy farming, plastics, manufacturing, and real estate. From 1992 until his death in 2013, Mulwana served as a non-executive director on the board of directors of Standard Chartered Uganda, the second-largest commercial bank in the country, by assets.
