Herbert Greene (Broadway Conductor)
Herbert Greene (June 16, 1921 – September 25, 1985) was an American conductor, music director and vocal arranger prominent on the Broadway stage in New York City. He won two Tony Awards for the 1958 musical ''The Music Man''. Biography Early life Greene was born on June 16, 1921, in Brooklyn, New York. As a boy, he studied to be an opera singer with Thomas LoMonaco, a protégé of the well-known vocal scientist, Dr. Douglas Stanley. Mr. Greene also aspired to be a composer, and had a body of serious compositions: his Sonata for Cello and Piano was performed in New York City, and ''The White Notes,'' a series of piano pieces, was published. Career Greene's career began prodigiously: accepted to sing the lead role in a radio performance of Beethoven's ''Fidelio'' for Arturo Toscanini, as well as to sing in the chorus in Leonard Bernstein's 1944 Broadway musical '' On the Town,'' he chose the latter. Herbert Greene (musician)
Herbert Jabez Green (aka Herbert Greene) (1907–1980) was an English professional musician and virtuoso of the 81 key Wheatstone Duet Concertina and accomplished player of many different concertinas, the accordion and the piano. He had an excellent technique and ability to exploit the full capabilities of his instrument, particularly the double keyboards with his use of counterpoint, rich harmonies, tricky embellishments and improvisation. During his lifetime he was fairly well known for his ability and he played in many prestigious and famous venues throughout the UK as well as on BBC radio's '' Variety Bandbox'' programme. Herb “Herbie” Greene (born April 3, 1942) is an American photographer best known for his portraits of the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck, The Pointer Sisters, Carlos Santana, and Sly Stone, published by ''Rolling Stone'', record labels, and books. Early life and education Born April 3, 1942, in Indio, California, Herb Greene grew up on his father's pear orchard in Medford, Oregon. His father traveled the West Coast selling fruit. His mother, a homemaker, could draw well, and influenced him to pursue the arts. When the family moved to Yuba City, California, Greene took a drawing class at Yuba City High School. Herb Greene, (née Herbert Ronald Greenberg, born 1929) is an American architect, artist, author and educator. Greene's architecture practice was based in Kentucky, Oklahoma and Texas. His built projects are known for an original interpretation of organic design. Biography Herbert Ronald Greenberg was born in 1929 in Oneonta, New York. Greene left Syracuse University in New York in 1948 to enroll at the University of Oklahoma, where he studied under the direction of Bruce Goff, a modernist architect known for his iconoclastic design philosophy. While earning his degree and after, Greene worked for Goff, preparing architectural drawings, which are now included in The Art Institute of Chicago, Archival Collection. During 1951 to 1954 Greene worked for John Lautner in Los Angeles, California and then relocated to Houston, Texas, where he worked for Joseph Krakower and established his own practice.
